Razorock Recurve razor

Took me a bit to get a few words down on this one as I had to tend to some windy conditions and issues that arose here in the Garden State. Nothing major but, trash collection units were being blown everywhere and I had to anchor them down. Enough of that and just a quick note on today’s shave. The RC80+ plate came in today as I had mentioned previously and I went in to it with a 3rd time used Feather blade that still had some whisker cutting edge to it. Fit was precise and clamping power was identical as well. Kept the RR HD hollow handle 82mm as I’ve confirmed via the IB website and why change it as it works just fine for me. A complete 3 pass shave was completed without incident or any heat gremlins rearing their heads anywhere on my skin both face & neck. It was enjoyable, comfortable and nicely efficient at every phase of each pass. To be quite frank, it felt very similar to the RC100+ with just maybe feeling a bit easier or gentler on the skin, perhaps? At least that’s the sensation that I got on this first shave. But, now I need to get another top plate because I have the urge to put them both up against one another just to clear up the shave haze that I’m dealing with. It was that similar to be truthful. Nevertheless, it was an excellent shave that proved one thing for certain. The RC100+ & RC80+ have very good cutting chops while still being able to operate with ease and comfort. Just a big plus and then some in my book.

More to follow…

Installed a fresh KAI blade in the Recurve RC80+ for this mornings shave. An absolute top notch shave from start to finish. 3 full passes on 2 days growth without a single incident and irritation free shave. Blade feel is ever so slightly bumped up that actually gives a more acute feeling on what the blade is doing regardless of what pass or phase of the shave one is in. Feel is positive whether ATG, XTG & WTG consistently with excellent audible feedback with every stroke on both face & neck. I actually performed a 2 pass head shave that was simply perfection when all was said & done. No touch ups or buffing was needed for both parts of the shave. I felt as though comfort & smoothness were barely compromised with just a slight adjustment in angle (closer to the guard) while ease of use was pretty much the same as with any other blade I’ve used. It’s noticeable without question and one is constantly aware that blade feel is there and a slight mis-step can potentially draw the red liquid but, it clearly is not an intimidating action or a scary one at all. If you want a gentle shaver with minimal blade feel, the RC80+ with another blade is more than capable of satisfying that criteria. However, if you want to pick up the feel & audible zones of the shave exercise, a KAI in the Recurve is definitely worth trying. Excellent shave & results.

A superb outing with the RC80+ this evening. This is virtually the best daily shaver that I have experienced by the house of Razorock. Blade feel is just about perfect, not too light nor over the top but, just enough to give one the exact feedback one requires without being so intuned about what one needs to do with pressure, more or less of it is pretty much mitigated with the somewhat subdued feel of the RC80+. I shouldn’t say subdued but, rather it is metered perfectly in this iteration with perfect balance of comfort and cutting efficiency. That’s just my experience and my take on this plate. It’s a bonafide winner and making a strong case for being the new flag bearer in the Razorock stable of excellent razors. I really need to get another top cap for the RC100+ and put these two up against one another. It would be a good comparison shave.

Simply superb shave with the RC100+. The KAI was excellent in the Recurve and just produced a masterful shave in both efficiency & comfort. I think that if Razorock does come through with the RC120+, we could be talking about one of the great creations in this 21st century in the wet shave market. A new design that takes full advantage of torque & rigid support is this razors claim to fame. And it’s doing it brilliantly.

While Razorock/Italian Barber gets ready to make their next drop of the Recurve (the 120+ is a definite acquisition), I went on and had a simply fabulous shave with the RC100+ with a fresh Bolzano blade installed. On the first go with this pairing, it was a sublime and truly enjoyable shave from start to finish. I’ve already waxed poetic on the pluses of this particular razor and this plate size and I really have nothing else to add except for those that haven’t tried one, you really are missing out on something that delivers on all points of what an everyday veteran, new in the chamber shaver and even the hardcore performance shave chaser, this razor can satisfy almost all if not all within those categories and with the highly anticipated RC120+ for the performance/efficiency core, tempered high efficiency united with comfort is a real possibility within the affordable tool shave universe. Well, at least I’m hoping that the RC120+ can deliver on that premise and I truly see no reason how it will not. Anyhow, until that happens, the RC100+ is a pure joy to use and gives me a very decent fix on both efficient character and mild mannered comfort.

One thing that I would like to say and I’m hoping that Razorock/Italian Barber reads this thread with the adjoining posts. I don’t think I’m in the minority here in suggesting that if there is a possibility for Razorock/IB to entertain the thought of bringing this same razor in a different alloy. For me, if they could somehow produce the Recurve in a Titanium alloy, I would honestly believe that it would be a truly special razor. Maybe a Limited Edition release or some sort of small quantity special edition run for the Ti crowd. I know that it would be a substantial increase in price because of the alloy and the more complex it is to work with however, limiting it to perhaps just two or 3 base plates in like a Ti RC80+, Ti RC100+ & in a Ti RC120+ whether as a full razor only with options to add on or à la carte with just the head assembly, I think it would do quite well especially as a Limited Edition run. Just a thought is all. I know that if that were to happen, I’d be all in on it especially with an innovative and new design in the DE category such as the Recurve. Fingers crossed….

Hopefully, some of you fine gents were able to pick up on the latest drop today from Razorock on the Recurve base plates & razor sets. A few still remain for anyone still interested in trying out this really remarkable razor that brings a new twist to the double edge razor platform. The RC100+ & RC120+ plates are gone but, still some limited stock on the lower gap plates available.

Yes, I grabbed a RC120+ plate and an extra top cap.
