Razorock Recurve razor

Yes, I jumped on the death & doom bandwagon. Honestly, who gives an Eff? It's a hobby and hurts no one. As they say here in the hood "That sounds like a you problem player, that don't sound like a me problem". Deal with it.

Just received this one yesterday. Comes in the typical Razorock/IB razor box which I have no issues with. The finish is quite good for a limited release prototype razor. Finish is well done and it actually sports a machine finish polish that’s not too shabby at all. Love’em or hate’em, Razorock/IB offers excellent value for one’s hard earned cash and that’s not up for debate. The handle is a bit big and long but, it doesn’t look out of place or stick out like a sore thumb as some have posted along a few other shave forums. Is it ideal? No but, I can live with it and make it work. I won’t shave with it yet as I’m working through the various plates on the Assassin but, once done, I’ll give the Recurve a good go.

TBH I for one am really looking forward to your review as I value your opinion and so far it's never steered me wrong.

It's... alive!
Mine have landed today as well (RC60 and RC100).
The head may look a bit chunky in the photos, but it isn't really. It does have a bit of a belly, but the whole head is slimmer than the base plate of some other razors.
It's about as thick as TGS Styletto or a thicker cap and plate Old type, and fairly lightweight.

I have two razors on loan at the moment, so I'll probably get a comparison shave or two in before I leave for holiday in the middle of next week.

I also really like the handle - I have the standard hollow HD handle and while I like it, I think I prefer the long hollow HD handle as it gives me a few more options grip-wise.

The shape of the head from the side really reminds of Karate Kid, too. :D

First shave out with the Recurve 100+ by Razorock and a very, very impressive one indeed. Very easy on the skin with excellent cutting action during all 3 passes. It was intuitive from the start with a neutral feeling shave angle to get the cutting flowing though, I believe there is plenty of angle adjustment “window” for one to get their shaving technique honed in.

A banger of a start for the Recurve.

Another easy evening shave with the Razorock Recurve. I have to say that this is one of their smoothest yet arguably their most comfortably efficient performing razors to date. I own the BBS, Mamba .70, the Lupo .72, .95 & .127 and a .84 Gamechanger and this one might be the best all rounder of the bunch. I know, it’s early with just two shaves in but, I can most confidently say that the Recurve 100+ is on another level of smooth, comfortable and very efficiently capable performance from the Razorock stable. I’m going to run this one for a bit before I get back to the Assassin and continue dialing in that kit as well. One thing that I can say for certain is that this razor is an excellent shaver and for the gap & positive exposure that it’s built with, intimidating is not in this razors resume with just the tiny amount of blade feel that is perfectly balanced with the gap size. Stability and rigidity is world class with perfect support throughout the whole blade edge to edge. I would like to point out that I did remove the HD hollow long handle and installed the HD hollow standard size one which I think is somewhere between 82-85mm in length. Gives it a very nice balance point and feels just about right. I’ll give the long handle one a go a bit further down the road but, this one will work nicely as I get a couple more shaves in just to play with angles and such to get a real good feel for the Recurve.

Excellent review sir, i noticed in my teenage years (when i started using safety razors) the more rigid the blade is clamped the smoother the shave, im glad razorock took that and translated that into the recurve series, hope they bring this in stock soon as i woule be glad to get one as well.

Thank you my friend, very kind of you for just a mash up of words to vaguely describe my shave experience with this razor. Much appreciated. There were a few extras that were released recently but, only in individual base plate components and not as a complete razor kit. However, I believe that Razorock did mention that there are more to come soon.

An easy two pass shave for this mornings outing. There was light stubble only after 16 hours from yesterday’s shave. Actually, a quick ATG pass and just an extended buff & clean up pass to get me back to a full BBS finish. No irritation or mishaps of any kind and simply a superbly efficient and equally a most comfortable shave. No harshness is felt at all with the Recurve anywhere on the skin and in the neck area it truly is a smooth operator. I’ve read on some forums that the Recurve100+ is a little to aggressive or gives more blade feel than one would like. Honestly though, I just don’t feel it, see it nor experience that sentiment from the very few that have stated that. I actually think that the Recurve could actually go another gap or two up in range without getting anywhere near being too aggressive, harsh or delivering over the top blade feel. I feel it is that composed with the design geometry that Razorock has created in this their newest creation. Heck, I’d even say an open comb would be quite a viable option as well. As a daily, the RC100+ is a pure joy to use and hasn’t given me a reason or action to question it’s performance. I’ll use a Feather and a KAI blade in the coming days to gauge performance on the Recurve while seeing how it works against a couple extra days of whisker growth. I really don’t see this razor failing in that endeavor as well.

Nothing but, pure perfection in execution from start to finish. One weeper of the tiniest iteration and voila! A BBS finish that ranks with some of the best ever. The Feather & Recurve combo made short work of 2 days old whisker growth in an efficient yet superbly comfortable way. Blade feel is minimal yet there is subtle reminders that it’s there working in near perfect unison with the RC100+ with every collective stroke and every distinct pass. ATG the Recurve is simply astounding with that rock solid stability & vise-like locking force. Completely done in two passes with a light buff/touch up work on the neck & chin. I thought it would be a bit much, the Recurve that is with the Feather blade and I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. No harshness from a fresh Feather and the feel on skin is nicely muted and not pronounced. This I think is attributable to the Recurve’s geometry, the double bend and the rigidity that the platform simply provides. No explanation on my end concerning the physics of the design or its intended inherent nature of what Razorock/Italian Barber was looking for. Simply put they just achieved it by sound design and implementation of said design. The feel is natural and down right intuitive from the first two strokes. There’s plenty of range within the razor geometry to either go steep or shallow as long as one does not ride the bar specifically as I find that cutting effectiveness is just about gone as the same can be said in over riding the top cap, at least in my limited experience that has been the case. I find it to be excellent at a neutral position and it simply just feels natural in my use with results that rival some of the best designed razors in my shave collection. I would have to say without hesitation that as a Razorock razor and of the others razors that I own from this maker, it has quickly become my favorite from this producer surpassing my beloved Lupo Series & Mamba 70 razors respectively. I’ll run out the Feather after a couple more shaves then move on to the KAI and see how much of a bump it picks up in blade feel & performance while hopefully not compromising much in comfort/ease of use/smoothness.

Great shaves to all…

Another excellent shave with the Recurve & Feather combo. I might add that it felt even smoother than the initial shave as the Feather blade for me always takes a shave to break in nicely. And it was super nice. The razor handled two days growth again with ease and not a single mishap. I did give myself the slightest of heat along the left jawline as I did a quick pass or two to clear up some stragglers without dabbing some lather in the area. Cold water & alum had it under control once the shave was over in 15-20 mins. A couple of things I would like to say in general about the Recurve after a weeks worth of shaves. One, the balance and feel in hand is excellent. Mind you, I’ve been using the smaller Razorock HD handle for everyone of my shaves so far. Second, the install and removal of the blade has become second nature. Not that it was difficult but, once wet the blade has a tendency to stick to the top cap making it slightly a bit of a nuisance to remove safely. However, a quick spray of clear Teflon and no longer an issue. I grab the ends and it slips right out effortlessly. I have had no issues with rinsing and cleaning out the razor of soap & whiskers at anytime. A quick run under the sink or splash, it’s clear and ready for the next pass. The end tabs are covered and the knurled ends on the head assembly has helped in my grip in attaching the handle and tightening it down with good effect. Audible effect is there but, is slightly muted with the small contact area of the blade and the compact safety bar/top cap in relation to standard DE razor geometry. Plus, the blade is held quite rigidly therefore reducing resonance once the razor meets skin & whiskers. Fit & finish is excellent with no machining marks on the top cap or base plate, at least on my particular razor. It has a very nice tumble polished look to it that looks closer to premium than just a workman’s like type feel in general. It’s not a jewel nor should one expect it to be for the $99.99US entry price however, as it’s constructed & presented, it’s a bargain of a deal with excellent shave pedigree from a manufacturer that knows how to make world class shaving tools and offers them to the shave consumer at an excellent price. On overall value and quality from this maker, no one can make a case or argue any different. Razorock/Italian Barber just produces the best bang in shave hardware for one’s dollar. The Recurve is no different and in my limited use so far, I can confidently say that it’s my favorite Razorock razor as it combines ease of use, comfort and an efficiency level that is simply world class.

Without hesitation I’d recommend it to anyone, both to newbie & veterans alike. Just find your gap as there are a few options to choose from (when they are back in stock, hopefully soon) and just enjoy the shave from an out the box designed razor. Absolutely worth the money.

Picked up an RC80+ on the recent release of extra components that Razorock/Italian Barber put up a week and change ago. Just got notification that it was delivered today out of the clear blue without any tracking updates. Good old US Mailing system. Might as well go back to the Old Pony Express, couldn't be any worse.

Anyhow, glad that it's here and going to see how it compares to the RC100+ that I already have. Shave to come....
