In Australia in Queensland the state government is planning a new castle law, trying to pass through parliament legislation, to allow Queenslanders to carry firearms to protect family homes from youth crimes are continuing out of control.

Queenslanders wants to follow the American second amendment law.

Well this is sign of times in Oz, as I use to call place, apparently the Cops are not enough of a debutant to deal with crime. So apparently the folk in charge are considering letting local pack heat for self protection.

Common site were I live, people carrying.

I can’t imagine living in that kind of fear. Must be exhausting.
There is no fear, and guns are just tools, grow up with them and they're just normal, there is no stigma attached. We don't walk around in fear, and we're not afraid of guns. Razor blades however, those things will kill you!

I grew up in and around not friendly places. I was involved in robbery attempts and was jumped a few times by 3 or 4 dudes. Guns were in my mind after the incidents. I usually carried a piece of rebar which helped a little in the incidents. But with the time and expense of just being able to purchase a gun (carry was made impossible to be permitted to do) i could never afford to buy a gun.

The incidents were done mostly by hand and usually with a weapon or improvised weapon and 1 time a gun was hinted at as they approached me.

A handgun might have just needed to be shown and i/they would have walked away but who knows. And my living situations improved but i still carry something like the rebar just in case.

I got moved out of my home state and where i live now the state is a bit gun/2A friendly so eventually i will get a handgun as an everything gun. Training and range fun and personal protection when i'm out or in. There are bears that go through the area i'm in and 1 actually walked past me across the street from me just doing bear things but i stumbled to my room as quickly as i could.

I rather have the advantage of being more powerful than hope nothing happens to me again. I also like pewing so a gun in general is a fun thing that i just want to do without renting one at a range.

The problem comes when an unarmed person say No or tells you that you are being an idiot.

You telling me that all gun carriers have enough self control to not reach for it when they are totally losing an argument or being humiliated? The American gunshot statistics bare grim testimony to that - it certainly isn't all "Home Defense"

Its bad enough that "trained" American cops routinely shoot unarmed people out of frustration / racism for no good reason, let alone Good 'ole boys who are itching to use one of the pieces from their armoury.

This lady might be trained, proficient and level-headed. Alternatively she might be one of those people who can’t get their car into a parking space in fewer than fifteen minutes, needs glasses but refuses to wear them and actively fantasises about being attacked so that she has an excuse to shoot someone.

In the Great Smoky Mountains firearms and dogs are not allowed. Discussions about the effectiveness of guns and mace have occurred.
Does Bear Spray Work?
Get yourself a bloody can air presser fog horn, bears have sensitive hearing, they hate loud high pitching noise.

Edit:- Get yourself a smelly fart gas sprayer, bears hates stinky smells.

44 mag minimum, 357 will just piss 'em off.
Yes, neither of those are stopper guns when it comes to bears, black or grizzly.

Many years ago, a fellow gun club member had a nuisance black bear that kept coming on his semi-rural property outside of the city limits. No agency would come and trap the bear for relocation leaving him to solve the problem. He did so one evening by shooting the black bear in the chest with his 44 mag long barrelled Ruger super black hawk pistol.

The upshot was that the black bear buggered off leaving blood and flesh at the spot where it had been hit. That left a wounded black bear in the woods with night about to fall. Not wanting to look for the wounded bear in the dark he left it till morning to do. In the morning, he noticed sea gulls circling a spot a short distance away in the woods where he found the bear dead.

There are a couple of lessons that I took away from this incident. You do not want to leave a wounded bear in the woods which is a danger to not only to you but anyone else who happens by. A 44-mag pistol is not a reliable stopper gun by any stretch of the imagination.
