Growing up in Tennessee, gun ownership was not a religion any more than owning a pitchfork. Mental illness has resulted in both suicide and homicide rates increasing which has resulted in attention to gun ownership.

Also, TV shows like Gun Smoke and Bonanza created the self-sufficient cowboy myth. The Civil War created the "lost cause" mentality. All of these factors have created the religion, not the firearms.

The only two occasions that the world is safe is when everyone is armed, or everyone is unarmed.

The danger always, is that firearm ownership gives rise to the stoopids believing that "Might is Right" and they go looking for reasons to legally shoot anyone they dont like the look of.

You’ve not seen some of the responses I’ve had for suggesting that you might not actually need a pistol to go to the supermarket.

If you do not like firearms that is fine and dandy, it is personal choice to own, or not in some places.

If you don't want to be a Sheep, this is good read.

Because bad thing sometime happen.
The book isn't about firearms, but situational awareness and being prepared rather than being afraid and paranoid. One could own a firearm and remain a sheep.

There is a YouTube channel I subscribe to that features reviews on self-defense equipment who always stresses the importance of practicing. I rarely hear gun advocates say they have a routine of deploying their firearm and target practicing. Same with a knife. Where do you carry a knife and how easy is it for you to deploy? What about mace or a personal alarm. Do you have to muscle memory that will allow you to be effective? Looks to me like most think that having a side arm makes them safe, but the truth is, if they had to deploy, they would be clumsy.

Well in life you have their type of people wolves, Sheep, and Sheep Dogs.

You need not live life in fear, but it is good idea to understand what is going on around you.

You are right about the idea behind book, most people are clueless, they walk around in fog.
In Australia in Queensland the state government is planning a new castle law, trying to pass through parliament legislation, to allow Queenslanders to carry firearms to protect family homes from youth crimes are continuing out of control.

Queenslanders wants to follow the American second amendment law.
