In the interests of scientific research (i.e Boredom) i purchased 2 cans whilst shopping at Tesco.
No 1 was their newly launched "Tusk" - Sensitive Shaving Foam Aloe Vera" and is
"specially formulated to give you a smooth shave with ultimate comfort. Your skin will refreshed, moisturised and hydrated."
Just £0.89 for a 250ml can and manufactured in the UK by "Barony International Limited"
No 2 was a can of Nivea Men Sensitive Shaving Gel, which i have used before. £2.75 for 200ml
Long product description about Chamomile, Provitamin B5 and Vitamin E etc
i tried both direct to face, using a brush to face distribute and also into a small lather bowl and using a brush to attempt to whip them up into something. I used a KCG DE razor with KCG blade.
1) The Tesco Tusk foam was just short lived foam that expanded hugely out of the can (in all directions

) and then just made a mess everywhere before collapsing. Very little in the way of glide or comfort, i abandoned it after a few strokes WTG and didn't have enough confidence in it to continue. It actually didn't have much in the way of glide and zero cushioning really.
You head tells you there is a big volume of protective foam on your face, but it really doesn't help the shave much and just collapses really quickly. In a pinch i would rather use a bar of soap to shave with.
I was left feeling that i had "taken one for the Team"
2) The Nivea was a low foaming gel that was actually quite slippery and helped the shave along. I found it could be made a little better when whipped up in a bowl using a brush. I completed a 4x pass shave with it and it really wasn't too bad on the scale of things.
I would shave again with the Nivia (if i had to !!)
I have used Gillette Premium Gel-in-a-can of some sort previously and it was like the Nivea, a very slippery thin face covering that actually did the job of helping the shave along.
