My understanding is that all brown sugar is dyed to make it look more natural, so that will probably deepen the colour of the 'brew'Will do. Next stage will be adding sugar, thinking of going Demerara.

I'd thought that was just some brands and/or relatively cheap product lines. My understanding is that all brown sugar is dyed to make it look more natural, so that will probably deepen the colour of the 'brew'
yes, I think you're right. All sugar from beet is white and that can be dyed brown - needs to be sugar from cane to be naturally brown.I'd thought that was just some brands and/or relatively cheap product lines.![]()
Brown sugar is not really dyed I believe. It gets it’s colour from the molasses that is either left behind during the refining or later added. My understanding is that all brown sugar is dyed to make it look more natural, so that will probably deepen the colour of the 'brew'
Not a lot. The metal reusable ones are very good. Not expensive on Amazon.Talking of the Aeropress…
Anyone tried doubling the filter papers? Does it make any difference?
Thanks

The filter tend to let the brew drip through too quickly so the hope would be that two filter will reduce the flow making a stronger brew. The only other way is the inversion method. What would you hope to achieve? I presume that would mean the pressure required would be increased and there would be some kind of desired effect on the extraction?
Personally not tried it yet, finding it ok but May have a go sometime.I've only ever used the inverted method. The other way never made sense as theres no vacuum while gravity is working against you. I'd try the inverted, I never saw the need to deviate from it.
Don’t chefs taste as they go along?View attachment 124714

Filtered with the Aeropress and back in the bottle. Nest step is to sweeten it a little. Little too early to taste it ? It’s taken on a lovely rich colour and I am surprised the beans haven’t absorbed as mush Vodka as I thought they might.
Tasted last night. To say it is strong is an understatement ! Need to look at a way of calming it down ?Don’t chefs taste as they go along?![]()
