Boil Ham bone with remaining ham meat on for 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours.
Strain and add only the liquid back into the pot
Add in yellow split peas, onion and grated carrots, a squeeze of tomato paste, a pinch of garlic, fresh ground black pepper and 4 chicken bullion cubes. Cook slow over low heat for 2-3 hours until the peas are mushy.
Finally add your ham meat and simmer till you are ready to eat.
