I hope you do get to enjoy your friends stovies dinner.
Contrary to how it may look, I might find that enjoyable if made with good lean roast beef. Our dog is only feed actual dog food with a couple of hand feed bites of my lunch sandwiches for a special treat.

I was far too soft with my dog and dinner, she loved fish, mulligatawny soup (a vegetarian curry soup) apples, vegetables, all meats, toast, the list goes on and on.

Wife sent me to Costco and I found something new to us. Beef shanks. They were very reasonable for the amount of beef, so got them. Took them to room temp, dried them, then dipped them in a mixture of kosher salt, fresh cracked pepper and flour. Seared them in a hot skillet and set aside. Then chopped up celery, onion, carrots, and garlic, made a roux, added some white wine & thyme, then added the beef shanks and beef broth. Simmered on low for about four hours. Probably one of the best gravy's I've ever made. I'm blaming the collagens in the beef bone and marrow. The package of meat made enough for my wife & I to have dinner three times

Turkey BLT out with granddaughter and her friend. Good joking back a forth after she claimed her sister was pregnant. She loved that I believed her. She and her friend made a concoction of Dr Pepper and cream called a Dirty Dr Pepper.
Just googled the recipe. Great soup!
I make something similar with green split peas (never seen yellow peas?) with the trimming and bone from a ham roast
What's the difference between yellow peas and green peas? I've never seen yellow ones in a store in the US?
We have both types of peas here in our stores and have tasted green pea soup. I do not care for the taste of green pea soup.
