Well, I've just had the best shaving experience of my life so far.
I can't pinpoint any one thing, more of a perfect storm of elements that made for a superb experience.
The Captain Fawcett brush is fast becoming a favourite.
It really does perform and feel much more like a badger.
Not something I'm used to from other synthetics, but whatever proprietary method they've figured out to make those bristles, it's working.
The handle design lifted from a Vintage Ever Ready Rubberset, doesn't hurt either.
it's very comfortable and easy to keep a grip on for bowl lathering.
There were a couple of firsts, today.
It was the first time I've used Noble Otters products.
Lather building wise, I found that it performed comparably to what I'm used to from Stirling in terms of the amount of hydration needed, but after that, that's where the surprises started.
I built the lather to the same level of volume, sheen and hydration that I'm accustomed to, but I have never experienced a soap with this much slickness.
The glide with the razor and the feeling of protection was exceptional.
It's also my first time using the Fatboy, and I expected the same or similar performance to the Slim that's been my daily driver for years now on my preferred setting.
I'm used to getting roughly 7 shaves out of a feather blade before I feel that old familiar dull tug, leading to a fresh blade change, and I expected to have to load a new one into the Fatboy after a couple of strokes, but for whatever reason, the current blade doesn't seem to want to quit, so I went with it.
Balance wise, although the head and handle are slightly beefier, I found that it felt just the same as I'm used to with its successor.
I get decent amount of blade feel on 7 with the slim but for whatever reason, be it the razor, the soap, or both, there wasn't really any to note here.
Which was a surprise to say the least.
Yet it was still remarkably efficient.
I got an effortless 3 pass WTG, XTG, ATG shave with BBS results as if it were nothing.
No nicks, no irritation.
I have a trouble spot on the middle of my neck, where the hair grows in a spiral, where I'm very prone to nicks but thankfully, it wasn't an issue this time.
The splash also performed fantastically.
Very little initial burn, and quickly soothed the skin.
The fragrance was also really pleasant throughout.
Sweet, complex and powdery, with a really nice citrus tang at the top.
Couldn't have asked for a better first experience with these variables, and I think it's safe to say that Noble Otter has a customer for life.
I'll need to try this soap with my slim next time, to see if it's comparable to what I experienced with the 195.
