Nooo... I'm sure it works great but for me a travel brush and its matching case/tube are linked, I couldn't enjoy one without the other. I know, I'm strange but it needs to match

hahaha - that's my preference too!
I've just been looking at the two sizes of Simpsons travel tubes. It looks like the small one is too small and the large one will have the brush rattling around it inside. I'll stick to the Muehle tube I have.

... Yes all the Simpson synths seem to come up a size small or so due to the knot shape... My Chubby 2 felt like a 24mm and the Classic 1 felt like a 19mm, at most.
Different knot shape and possibly other fibres used for the SimFix. But yes, it feels small. On paper 25/52 (compared to 27/52 of the Chubby). That might actually be factoring in my feeling that I can’t build up a proper lather with it, being used to much bigger [badger] brushes, which can hold more.

Synthetics seem to be more sensitive to density and loft than their badger counterparts (which are bad enough!) Muehle synthetics also feel smaller than the knot size would suggest but they arent particularly dense which combined with a taller loft gives them good splay which increases their presence on the face... Same with Plissoft knots, although they swing too far the other way and usually end up some sort of springy mop.

I think Simpson got it just about right with the Chubby 2 synth, I know many out there disagree and found too much pressure was required to make it splay but treat it rough for a week or so and either the knot relaxes or the owner gets used to applying the extra pressure, either way it just feels right. Your description of the SimFix sounds similar to how I found the Classic 1 synth, I think it was Dipesh who described it as "like trying to lather with your elbow" - I cant improve on that description

I agree with Dr Watson about the Chubby 2 synth "opening up" or relaxing after 6 or 8 rough uses. Is there anyone who can compare the new brush to the Duke 3 synthetic? They look quite similar.

The one travel brush with a matching case/tube that I would like is the Simpson Major in best. I think the handle is big enough to use on its own without having to screw it into the case/tube.

To quote Gary Young (great nephew of Alexander Simpson)

"There's no such person as Major Beeching. This was a marketing idea by David Carter. Originally we made two turnback style brushes, one larger, one smaller. Simply named the Major (and funnily enough the Minor)!"

Despite that I'd still love to own one, just find the pricing a little rich considering a 2-band turnback from Frank shaving is about £12 or something daft.

They feel similar. They Duke just feels like a much smaller Chubby. And both feel smaller than their size would suggest.

I own both the Chubby 2 and the Duke 3 synths, and I think I enjoy using the Duke more than the Chubby. When I splay the Chubby the lather often gets forced up the knot onto the handle and then onto my hand. Even if I try to thoroughly dry my hand my grip on the razor then feels less than sure. I'd like a Simpsons synth in a big M7 style handle.
