hey @Gairdner I remember you make shaving brushes, I dont remember what exactly you use but saw this coming up in lidls next special is this what you use?

I’ve been DE shaving for a couple of months now and getting on ok. Still haven’t settled on what blades I like, a work in progress.
I do keep getting a couple of patches left with some stubble. On the left hand side of my face around the cheek/jaw line. Three pass shaves, I’ve tried with different blades but seem to be getting the same results. I don’t want to go over the area too much as I don’t want to cause irritation.
Anyone any ideas what may be causing this? I’m guessing it’s my technique as I have tried different blades, including feather but seem to be ending up with the same area with more stubble left.
I realize at this stage I shouldn’t be looking for a bbs shave and I’m not, I’m happy to stop at three passes with a decent enough result, I just keep end up with a slightly uneven result.

Yes, I'd say it is your technique too. I'd suggest keeping your skin stretched and make sure you are keeping the right angle on the blade as you round the cheek/jaw line. You could also try pulling your skin on the cheek up bringing some over the jaw line. I think the cheek/jaw line area is one of the hardest spots to get consistently good results on for most people.

I had pretty much the same issue when I started out. One small area just wouldn't want to be as smooth as the rest.
Then I actually mapped my face properly and found that this patch had a weird pattern.
I changed direction on each pass to reflect my findings and all was well.
So, my recommendation, if you haven't done it yet: Face mapping. Properly.

I saw that lathe in-store at Lidl yesterday. 60 quid. Plenty left.
I was briefly tempted, but then considered my better half's reaction were I to set that up in the kitchen or living room.
I have some tools from Lidl and have generally been quite happy with them.

No idea. I'm not a DIY person, only the word 'lathe' jumped at me.
Everything else I ignored.
I bought some coffee beans instead.

No, but Giesen & Forsthoff does have a similar head design in a safety bar and open comb variants.
I had the open comb, and while it was a decent shaver as far as that sort of head geometry goes, the thread did not last very long, which was a shame.
I think Dana Trading used to offer the head on eBay, but you can find whole razors sold in the UK as well.
