Made a complete fool of myself today.

I live on a hill, a few miles from town and when the wind blows you know about it, Had a grocery delivery, as you might imagine I like to have a chat with the van drivers as they unload the shopping, one man likes to talk about his garden, another his children, some talk about their vans and going electric, the weather is a popular topic.

They come from all over the world, settled, happy and working, all ages too.

The delivery man today was from Pakistan and we talked about the weather and how there was a sharp nip in the air.

'Yes' he said, that is why we don't like coming out here'

'You mean Asians?'

'No, van drivers'

I wished the ground had opened up and swallowed me.
It happens to everyone. You’re human, and you asked an innocent question literally as part of an unscripted “nice weather” conversation because you’re a caring person with a compassionate demeanor. As a result your sense of propriety felt upended by possibly offending another human. But now it’s done, and you’ll both move on. The likelihood is you won’t do that again. Although if you’re a dope like me there’s a distinct chance of doing something similar in the future. :banghead:

You mean like me trying to pay a compliment to a lady once by saying she didn't sweat much for a fat girl?

Or Anal Cranial Inversion Syndrome (ACIF)

I didn't really say that to anyone, Charlie. :)
Now I don’t know what to believe! My world is all inside down, upside out, and topsy turvy :o_o:

Listen, I’ve let one or two doozies out before turning on the old filtration system. It’s okay to admit it, Chuck. You’ll feel a huge weight off your shoulders. And only then can the healing process begin..

I’m getting a new phone tomorrow. As it will be light years ahead, technologically speaking, from this one I’m using, I will be lost for several days trying to work it out…

You’d never think I worked in IT for more than 15 years. 😵💫

I know just what you mean. I had to change my phone when the 3G signal was switched off and I was tempted to buy a Nokia dumbphone that was a development of the phones of yesteryear.

But I didn't, the smart phone from Motorola will do a thousands times more than I can use, and that is fine with me.

Well, I have this new phone and appears to have set up ok. Time will tell.

There’s loads of stuff on it I’ll never use. I mean, what do I want with’Garage Band’ or ‘iMovie’? I’m not Eric Clapton or Stephen Spielberg. ‘Journal’, ‘Freeform’ what are they all about? I daren’t open anything in case I mess something up.

Luddite? Me? Heaven forfend!

Well, Good Luck Steve.

I found that my new phone just wanted to download many, many apps and I, being awkward, just spent time in deleting so much guff.

I know that people make maximum use of their phones, my window cleaner shows me an app on his phone that records who owes him money and when the addresses of all his clients and when they are due for cleaning, even connects to route planning. Runs his life and will not be ignored.

I already have an Life App called The Missus for that.

I had to replace my phone a year or two ago. It backs itself up to the cloud periodically so setting up the new one is just a matter of linking it to my account and restoring the backup. I went through all the stages of choosing the replacement, waiting for it to be delivered, unpacking it - only to let it set itself up and then realise that I can't really tell the difference between the new one and its predecessor. It was a curiously deflating experience.

It has reinforced my belief that phones shall be replaced when they break and not before.
