Learning to shave with the Feather Artist Club

Kai folder and the Feather Pro Super still going strong.
With and hybrid X/Atg pass today. Good and close. Effortless again as usual.
I think that's a mind over matter thing though, as I perceive the AC shaves before having undertaken them to be more time consuming or difficult but there is a sense of achievement afterward, the levels of which are never for me replicated with DE. That's even though I'm now, upon reflection and from post-shave perspective, finding AC shaves totally effortless.
That's exactly the same as I feel. I shaved at around 8am today and even now into the evening it would more than pass for a smart night out on the town. Now and again I'll use an alum to gauge how the shave went and I get very little feedback off it, if any. I've worked out a method which can get me BBS without really going ATG. I genuinely think I have found, for me, the holy grail of razor/blade combo.

Day 92 - Feather Artist Club SS with Feather Proguard blade (2)

I'm obviously super fussy about the blades. I used the SS instead of the DX today, and went for the lateral pressure approach to get a fairly close shave that was adequately comfortable, but really nothing to write home about. I may push on with a couple more shaves on this blade to see if it gets smoother, but at the moment it's looking like it's Kai Protouch of Feather Super for me, and nothing else.

For some reason today I threw caution to the wind and decided to go for a 3 pass shave finishing ATG. The area that was worrying me was the chin so tackled that using two hands which worked well. The finished result was probably the closest shave I've ever had, like glass. Still very smooth 6 hours on and might not bother shaving tomorrow. I don't think I'll incorporate the AGT pass into my everyday routine but is nice to know that it's there if I want it. It wasn't that long ago that I almost gave up on it as I was just making a mess of my face but it just goes to show that with persistence anybody can get really nice results with this razor.

It's that knowing that the ultimate shave is on tap. I settle for a decent, close comfortable result almost always but if I push on I can pull out a momentous shave for any occasion. That's the draw for me with this razor, it's easy to achieve whatever finish you desire. And all of it feels very rewarding.

Exactly. You can get a more than acceptable finish with just a single pass, two passes and you are smooth as a baby. I'll occasionally do an ATG 3 pass shave just to keep my hand in. I don't think I could get this close using a DE without irritation to be honest. A nice wettish Tabac lather probably helped, great soap.

Today I use a new Schick Proline blade after going 15 shaves with a Feather Pro blade :notworthy:

First few shaves were a bit rough with the Feather Pro then Schick Proline like. I guess I could have got one more shave out of it but it wasn't cutting well enough...still comfortable though.

Shaving with a new Schick was a pleasure.

I'm using my FAC SS a lot more than I anticipated, I just enjoy the experience and the results are fantastic.

Day 93 - Feather Artist Club SS with Feather Proguard blade (3)

For whatever reason, shave 3 with this blade was much more comfortable. I wonder if I need to cork them generally. Maybe that applies to regular Professionals and the Schick Prolines too. Anyway, three passes, perfectly acceptable and comfortable shave. Nothing to write home about though.

Day 94 - Feather Artist Club SS with Feather Proguard blade (4)

OK, so another good shave. I have to assume that this is because the blade was a bit rough at the beginning, and is now smoother. Again, three passes, comfortable and perfectly acceptable, but not the closest shave I've ever had.

Day 95 - Feather Artist Club SS with Kai PINK mild blade (1)

Very nice, actually. I seemed to really enjoy this blade, this time around. Not sure why, perhaps a change in technique. I'm of course closing on the magical 100th shave, so I ought to be a bit better than I was at the start. Three passes, WTG/XTG/ATG and fairly close and very comfortable. I've had better shaves, but if I was stuck on a desert island with this combination, I'd be fine with it.

Day 96 - Feather Artist Club SS with Kai PINK mild blade (2)

This seems like a really good combination. The feeling of the blade on skin is really obvious, and I can easily tell when I've got the angle right. I like it, actually. Perfectly acceptable shave, but still not comparable to how I can do with a DE or SE unfortunately. I think it's only the guarded Kais that get me that close.

Day 97 - Feather Artist Club SS with Kai PINK mild blade (3)

Another simple and easy shave. Not quite close enough for me though. I finished up with a fourth pass from the DE.

Day 98 - Feather Artist Club DX with Kai PINK mild blade (4)

Less successful today. A tiny nick under the nose and a couple of weepers that weren't apparent until the shave was over. I guess perhaps that's the difference with the DX, and perhaps I didn't adjust very well. Anyway, a bit disappointing to nick myself at this late stage in the game.

Probably a closer shave than yesterday though.
