There are several of us here with straight razor experience including honing. I've lost interest in the pre shave stropping and post strop drying. Every now and then I will use a Feather SS. Honing is a practical skill and using a straight is a nice experience.

Yes, I know there are some here but they seem to have diminished in posts with many not seen in a couple years.
Honing is not often discussed with veterans unless they are trying to help someone new with it.
I'm not sure what post strop drying is? Nothing has to be dried after stropping.
I know you were a fan of the method which involves alot more effort IMO having to basically touchup after every shave as well as stropping.
Most of us that use stones shave till it is unsatisfactory then either touch up or rehone going many months with nothing more than a quick strop being necessary.

I figured that's what you meant. Straight shaving does take a little more time. For most of us who are straight devotees the ritual is part of the draw. I personally am an anomily in that I LOVE to hone. I will hone razors that don't even need honing just to try an edge from a different finisher. But, I do keep a barber box with 15 honed to high level HHT for immediate use but it is not unusual for me to grab a razor out of one of the drawers (I have 200ish...🤷‍♂️) and go back to 4k if not bevel set then up through 15k or trans/SB Ark (or maybe another of the many nats, but that's another story) before shaving.That's partly why I get up in time to wake the chickens. But,...I feel that life is short, I do mostly things not of my choosing so my shave time is for my peace of mind.

I do the same Paul. Its rare to let an edge degrade to needing a touchup. It more about the honing and trying a different medium on that razor.
I know you are devout to Arks for the most part. I enjoy everything from Barber hones to Jnats and everything in between.
Part of the fun.

I do like other stones. In fact I have a brazilian slate I've been toying with for a little while: much different from the thuris; hard and rather slow; takes forever to slurry even with a diamond plate; leaves a fantastic edge. I just got a love for them (Arks) mostly because of the bunch of them I inherited from my Dad. He had a sharpening business and consequently had a ton of stones. Actually my brother got the majority of them. I somehow wound up with a box full of mostly small stones, mainly Smiths and Buck sets but most are really great, just small.
