Best soap made for wooden bowl

So, the f****** C&E Indian sandalwood soap I got is utter crap. But the bowl is nice. And methink these wooden bowls are all the same size - likely even produced by the same company. Which soap should I get to replace the C&E in that bowl? D.R. Harris, Penhaligon, Floris, others?

D.R.Harris is a decent option Halvor, I prefer the scent of Arlington to the others. I also have TOBS Sandalwood soap which I thoroughly enjoy, slightly more of a floral tone than with the same scented cream.

Other than that send C&E an email outlining the soap issue and they should offer an alternative or your cash back.

I was thinking I'd get one with an already rounded shape and just slip it right in there, thus the mentioning of said soaps..

In which case DR Harris would be my pick but, if I recall correctly, I think that many of these soaps have subtly different shapes?

If you go for Harris I would recommend picking a strong scented one like Arlington, I can smell something very unpleasant in the weaker scents (Windsor, Almond & Lavender) the tallow base perhaps?

I would be inclined to go for DR Harris..as of the ones you mentioned, it's the cheapest, great quality and all scents available. Weirdly though, scent strength can differ from puck to puck. My last two Harris soaps (Marlborough and Windsor) have been really strong and really weak in scent profile. Never had an unpleasant odour from them though...the most polarizing scent tends to be Marlborough as some feel it smells like an ashtray. I personally really like it..find it leathery and woody like an antique, leather armchair that one settles into for the evening. It's a cedar/sandalwood mix.

Penhaligon's only offer Blenheim Bouquet (citrus scent to my nose) in refill puck..unless you are lucky enough to find an outlet. Floris pucks are pricey and current formulation may not be as good (though don't take my word for this) as it seems they have gone back to Potassium Palmate . I am sure you saw my thread on this. That said the scents of the soaps are great and fairly strong.

Ultimately though it all depends on the hardness of the soap and the shape of your bowl (I have never had the C&E bowl) .
There are lot's of great options though..Valobra puck is outstanding and that may fit.

I've always found Windsor to have a weaker scent strength. What I do like is if used continuously for several months, one can really appreciate the full scent profile and the strength also seems to become slightly more pronounced.

I got Dr Harris arlington and penhaligon's bayolea in there so so nice wooden bowls. Great scent and lather, but as perfumers' soap, some chemical things inside. So I sold them.
For me You should try a saponificio varesino in your bowl, Stella Alpina and the others are great.

Hi Halvor,
I recently bought a couple of TOBS Sandalwood soap's. One was in a wooden bowl and the other was a shaving stick.
Sadly, I have to say that I was very disappointed with the sandalwood puck, as it has a very weak scent but still give a descent shave.
Unlike the shaving stick which has an abundance of Sandalwood scent and provide a great shave.
I put some Saponificio Varesino "Tundra Artica" in the the bowl. Notes of Oud, Cedar, Tangerine, with a Damascan Rose, Patchouli body with Amber, Sandalwood & leather.:)

Talking about soap/bowl profiles:

The D.R. Harris refill puck has a more squarish (rounded) bottom profile.
ToOBS / GFT are not like that. Ditto for the C&E pucks. Their profile is slimmer at the lower end.
Wooden bowls follow the profile of the soap, of course.
The Pens soap/bowl I think is different, the Floris one may come much closer to the ToOBS / GFT.

Others: Plisson porcelain bowl is rounded squarish, something like D.R. Harris.
Joris refill sells through the same company but the refill puck profile is not exactly the same as that of the Plisson.

The MWF ceramic w/ lid is very good for SV refills, if I remember well.

Don't have them all here to put them side-by-side and explain in detail.

Talking about soap refills (scent, quality):

You should know that already but best to avoid ToOBS/GFT/T&H, all veggie and not good performers.
Pens is ok but Floris is better. Both veggie as well.
D.R. Harris keeps the pride up and resists the unlawful pressure of all these "mr. sorry state" pro-eco groups, those who deliberately wish to make our lives much more miserable. Tallow is (and will always be) king, even if it is third or fourth in the ingredients list.

You can always take soap in bulk (soft or hard - Dusy Kabinett, LPL, etc.), cut it and put it in a nice wooden bowl.
