An excercise in consistency.

2/5 - not the best start. But on the good side, things can only get better! Unless you decide to do a blindfolded, wrong-handed shave while standing upside-down...
Ha! I'm going to be brutally honest about this challenge, and resist the temptation to flower things up!

I've never really liked the FatBoy, which is why I chose it.

Good luck to you and I think you are on the right track.

When I started shaving the norm was people had 1 razor, 1 soap/cream and used whatever blades were available when they ran out. You used what you had and figured out how to make it work. I still think that is a good strategy for beginners to use. Get the basics of shaving and lathering down pat first before adding variables by changing things in your routine. When you do change things only change one at a time so you will know if that is what really helped your shave.

Personally I have gone from changing everything around daily to trying to use the same brush, soap/cream and AS for a week at a time. I use a different razor daily just to some variety in there. That has really helped me get to know the soaps/creams and brushes that I have much better, which has lead to better more consistent lathering and that in turn has lead to better shaves.

You get to know your shaving gear like an old friend instead of like a passing acquaintance. It really can make a difference.

Personally:
razor - change monthly
brush - change monthly
soap - change weekly
AS - change daily

A month for the brush and razor gives you plenty of time to either fall in love again, or loathe and move on. By changing the soap weekly means you get a nice run on each product you own and lets you give your brush a good work out with different products..

"Monthly Shave Club"? I'd be interested if this was a sticky thread/club

I'm not saying I would commit to keeping to a regular monthly shave for all 12 months of the year, but I'd probably join in for several months.

Day 3:

I don't know what it is about the FB. I can't get it anywhere near my neck without getting weepers/irritation.

The MWF is getting easier to load/lather with daily use.

I have also found myself smelling my other soaps...

RazoRock XXX is currently my favourite followed closely by Caties bubbles LPV.

This irritation on the neck is getting bothersome now. As much as I like looking at and handling the fatboy it may just not be for me.

I'm going to have to change out the Astras, I'll try with a rapira.

On a positive note the MWF is doing wonders for my skin, I've lost wrinkles and SWMBO is very happy.

Hats off to you.
I'm working away during the week so can only take limited supplies with me, two razors, two brushes and three soaps. It's not enough!
No it isn't, it's too (two) many. Just take on of each thing, if you don't love it come the end of the week - get rid.

Have you tried a higher setting and maybe just one pass?

I only ever do one pass, It' fine on my face/tough stubbly chin it's catching on the hairs on my neck. I'll crank it up a bit.
If you crank it up you are increasing the blade gap making it more aggressive. That might be counter productive at this point. I had a hell of time getting a good shave out of my Fat Boy at a low setting and going up the scale made it even worse.

I had never realized how important the proper angle and very little pressure on the blade was until I learned to shave with a straight razor. Also how important a good lather and stretching the skin was. Now I normally shave with the Fat Boy set @ 9 with no problem.

I am thinking that getting the proper angle on the blade is more difficult on the neck than the rest of the face. Maybe that is part of the problem?

Could be, all my other de's and straights are fine, including my slim adjustable.

It's literally just the F.B I can't get on with, I've had it 3 years now, perhaps I'm just flogging a dead horse...
