Brut Original is (still) a great aftershave. It has modernised. It's softer than vintage, more caring to the face too with less alcohol than the vintage I've used. Passion really is like a less alcoholic Jade East. It's nice. The other Brut you should consider is Musk - it's sweeter, heavy tobacco leaf and yet light on the musk. That is lovely stuff, too.
But yes, Brut carries an undeserved ill reputation ... just look at how Blue Stratos is sneered at or Old Spice, outside of geeky shaving circles like ours.

I'm well into my 40s and now resigned that if I'm to mature, I might as well do it disgracefully.
My EDTs are all '80s orientated classics: Puig Quorum, YSL Kouros, Aramis, Ted Lapidus, Jacques Bogart ...
My aftershaves are all "classics": Brut, Old Spice, Pinaud, Jovan Musk (ooh, you have to get a bottle of that!), Denim, Pashana ...
Then there's my attars, which is my dip into the spicy, ambery, musky world of eastern perfumery and it's lovely! The west is so desperate to emulate it at the moment, as Oriental Spicy becomes de rigeur across the board ... and yet for a few quid, a 3ml vial of the proper oil can be had and it's just so much better.

Just remember to push them down well into as solid a block as you can, otherwise any water will get trapped in it. Your brush will lift more product too so you need to adjust for that. You probably already know this but someone else might not realise.

If you can find something exactly the same diameter, you can use it as a tamp to get the soap really well packed down. Otherwise thumbs ... they do a great job.

You're coming through loud and clear @pjgh I only have 5 months of 40's left. My aftershave shelf for non-themed shaves includes OS, most of the Pinauds, Blue Stratos, regular Brut (I do like it a lot), Irisch Moos, 4711 and Hai Karate. You are right, I do need to get some Jovan, I also keep looking at bottles of Aquatonic in the pound shop - but haven't had the bottle to buy any yet. Thoughts?
