Horse hair brushes

Sure did! Family and stuff over the weekend, apologies. PMing you back in a second.
Cool, no need to apologise.
I was curious as I hadn't received a response from another pm a few days before and was making sure it was working is all.

Grumpy old man
This long thread on horse hair brushes made me revisit my horse hair brush and do a practice face lather using MWF. I believe I will have to revise my initial bad impression of horse hair knots. It easily produced a fine lather on my face and was not near as prickly as I remembered it to be. I did load lots of soap in the brush, used more painting strokes and was very light on the brush when using circular strokes.

The knot was a Vie Long unbleached white 50/50 mane and tail knot reset into a Wilkinson shave brush handle that I had added lead in the handle. I had the original Vie Long handle reset with a 2 band badger. Always found the simple shape of Wilkinson handle to be very ergonomic in use.

My experience with the Epsilon horse was similar, by adapting technique using painting strokes and a light hand it was adequate, but a no scrub shave tip toing thru the tuelips is not me so binned the steed. (actually cut off hair and kept handle for future use with another knot)

Well, pleased to be able to join in the fun.
Had a go with my Horsey brush today.
It really isn't as bad as I expected.
Emminently usable for sure.
It is def prickly when dry. But not when it has had a soak for a few minutes.
There is something about its sort of simplicity that i rather like.
It is a brush. You know?
I wonder if they break in at all?
Bit surprised how much I like it.
Was expecting not to.
I am interested to see how it goes moving forward.

The ends don't split like boar, I've not experienced any kind of breaking in, other than the smell going away.

I am still finding this rather interesting.
I can see why people would think it prickly, but either it is going away a bit or iI have got ussed to it.
It is an interesting texture to use.
I don't know how you explain it, but i quite like it.
I am having no tangle issues.
I like the shape. Quite flat.

Each time I use my Zenith (extra soft) horse hair, I appreciate and enjoy it a little more. Sometimes the modern super-stuffed high density knots can be nice, but I’ve been astounded by the great lathers that the fairly sparse horse hair brush creates. Equally amazing is the fact that the knot doesn’t take all that lather and hide it away somewhere, but freely releases it without any extra intervention.

I am rather liking the idea of another horse hair.
I like the all natural,
I would have got the Zenith extra soft. I like the wooden handle.
In a perfect world, I think i prefer a flatter top. But they look sort of flat.
(I don't understand the firm central bit in every other brush I have tried (although i haven't tried many))

Anyway, I have a couple of handles from Rowler's dad.
It wouldbe great to put it in one of them.
I asked Zenith and they don't do knot only.

But it sounds like this is the better one people have found so far.
Including p.b's great review.
Are there any other contenders do 'we' think?
