Your shaving origin story

I started shaving in the late 80's and my razor was a Guillette Contour.

In the mid 90's I discovered the Guillette Sensor and since then it was my razor.

One day five years ago (I did not know the reason) I saw a video on youtube of traditional shaving and I felt curious. I bought a Omega boar brush and a stick of La Toja, also I bought a Muhle R89 and I began to shave of that form.

Then I bought more soaps, brushes and some other razor like Wilkinson Classic, Guillette New or Merkur 37C Slant.

One year later I decided that I like the Guillette Sensor better than any DE razor and I really enjoyed using badger brushes and shaving soaps, so I've been using the Guillette Sensor for over 20 years and I have no intention of changing it for another but always I'm going to use a brush and a shaving soap (or shaving cream)

Had acne as a teen and the dermatologist suggested less blades on the razor. Looked into natural products and bought body shop shave cream and a bic razor.

Eventually bought a wilkinson sword de and one thing led to another and kept buying loads of stuff!

Several years ago a mate suggested i could save a load of cash and make shaving enjoyable in 1 go......

Shaving daily with a multi-blade cartridge made my face sore, but missing a day or two meant it choked on the stubble and I spent more time trying to unclog the damn thing than using it. I started looking for a single-blade razor and stumbled across the Traditional Shaving Co website, one Merkur 34 and some TOBs cream later and I was getting better shaves without the irritation or the clogging.

My Father was a straight razor shaver but when he had me and my sisters he moved to DE. I was fascinated by his stuff (soap, brush and Gillette Slim and Insignia A/S Splash) and when I learnt to shave many years ago I borrowed his DE and thought it was great (more cool than actually using it correctly at the time)..I have always wet shaved but before I got into Traditional shaving properly I used a Gillette sensor which is about the best cartridge razor around IMHO and shaving foam/gel. I got very dry, irritated skin from the canned shaving foam so first bought some cheap cream in a tube...then a brush and picked up a Gillette 7 O'Clock DE from an Indian grocery store and around ten years later I am still shaving this way..(with a lot more brushes, soaps and razors)
My Father (now in his late Seventies) still shaves this way and I am sure he's never missed a day since I was a kid! So really down to him that I got into it.

Few years ago I was trying to find some information about kitchen knives. And I find some strange forum (croatian forum Brijacnica.com) where some strange people talking about razors and shaving. Well... They are obviously some kind of weirdies. But after one hour I understaind that weirdies write some interesting stuff. But, they are weirdies obviously!

And a little bit before start of 2016. one of my friend, who was also think those guys are weirdies, told me that he finaly bought DE razor. So I orderd too. And now, I am one of those weirdies who write about shaving gear.

Easy enough. I woke up one morning 53 years ago and decided it was time to try out my dad's Gillette/Schick TTO. I remember shredding half my face and going to school with bits of toilet paper staunching numerous blood flows. I thought, 'Today I am a man'.

Cartridges alongside canned goo for years. RSC creams then inspired the acquisition of a tub of Macca Root and a synthetic brush from Bodyshop. Forums then opened the door that was slightly ajar fully.

So I only started just under 2 years ago and it was through a friend who was into wet shaving and it all started because I wouldn't shave for weeks on end then I'd moan like mad when I did as I'd get really bad irritation on my neck which is the reason i just didn't like to shave ! And now I get the best she's everytime with no irritation and better skin for it .

But now I'm a changed man and like all of us we'll never look back and it's a really nice hobby to have and I've met some awesome people along the way .

It's been night and day for me. I noticed improvements a week from starting and now a year and a half into it I couldn't be happier. I'm sure the difference between canned foam to now using vegan or tallow soaps helps a tonne!

Back in 2011 I was reading a coffee blog by Reiss of Londinium Espresso where he was extolling the virtues of DE blades Vs. cartridges. Up until that point I'd shaved as infrequently as I possibly could and being blonde that meant less than twice a week. That clogged the multi-blade carts and made shaving even more of a chore. I never suffered from ingrown hairs or rashes but shaving was a still unenjoyable despite 'investing' in the latest and greatest Gillette vibrating multi-blades masterpiece. Thankfully TSR and other forums saved me loads of money by not having to splash out on Gillette's stuff
