Wolfman WR2 OC - expertise & advice appreciated - got my email

Got the email today and still smiling. Going WR2 and OC with Darwin handle.

Question is which OC should I get - .95, 1.05 or possibly the 1.15mm. Favorite razor today is the Carbon Cx. I did have the Wolfman SB WR1 .61 - would not have gone much more (if any) agreessivse. Years ago my daily razor was a Goodfella OC. I have used a Seygus OC in my "mild razor days" and found slightly harsh. The Wolfman will be in a rotation: Carbon Cx -> Wolfman OC -> Pils.

Your comments will be helpful. Anxious to see my original Carbon handle next to the Darwin.

Cheers

I've got a 1.15mm WR2 OC and a 0.61mm WR1 DC, so I might be able to help a little here. I do also have a Darwin handle, but I've never tried it on the WR2, and I've read other people's comments that the Darwin is best suited to the WR1.

In my opinion, the 1.15mm WR2 gives a much closer shave than the 0.61mm WR1. It may also be just a tiny bit less comfortable, but not much. Either are absolutely fine on my face, but I tend towards more aggressive razors generally.

I think there were a few people who felt that the 0.95mm was too mild, so perhaps in your position I would consider a 1.05mm.

Having said that, if you're fine with the Carbon CX, you'll probably be fine with the 1.15mm

I've had my WR2 1.15 dual comb (OC/SB) for a couple of weeks now.
I also shaved with a Goodfella OC for many years, so we share the same tastes in razors.
Yes, get the 1.15 (trust me on this). You will not regret it.
I notice no real difference in face feel with either side of the DC.
Both OC and SB shave smoothly, and the shave 'feels' the same even when I do half my face with OC and half with SB.
I put the WR2 1.15 the same as a Karve #D plate (and closer than a Timeless .68 OC) if that helps anyone.
Nice razor, you will enjoy.

What handle are you gonna go for? I've got the email too and am pretty much settled on WR2 1.15 closed comb. I have a WR1 OC standard gap which I love. I have the WR7 on it which is perfect so kinda tempted to go for a diff handle.
The WRH7 is my favorite handle, the WRH3 is another nice handle. I probably will go with the Darwin, interesting to read @wintoid comment and would enjoy other comments

LOL - sorry dude been a 10 hour day at work today so just wrapping a bit of decompression at the end. Would help if I read your thread properly. I am not sure on handle.... WR7 is awesome... but feels like a good chance to get a different one for variation. I may just go WR7 again.

In terms of looks, the WRH7 is my clear favorite. If looking for a different handle, my 2nd choice might be the WRH3 (close style). For some reason I always liked Darwin razors and plan to order the Darwin handle if 90mm.

@wintoid - is the Darwin a 90mm handle. I noticed lighter weight and heavier WR2 head might be issue for some.
I would say it's a very short handle. I haven't measured it but I would guess it's shorter than my 90mm WRH7 handles.

It's quite light, and wonderful in the hand. I'll never sell my Darwin handle.

Interesting how things are different for everyone. The Timeless .68 didn’t cut it for me, karve D plate works well for me, and the WR2 in 1.25 seams to fit my needs just fine. I do have to say I use it mostly to finish (atg pass, no pun intended) str8 razor shaves. Only a couple full shaves with this razor but the blade gap seems just fine to me.

Great choice, the Darwin handle is my favorite and from having a mirror polished and basic polish Wolfie I would always choose basic now. Unless they are side by side it is hard to tell any difference except in your wallet
