Witch hazel

I was surprised to read through this thread! Witch Hazel is the one item I would never do without post-shave, and it was my dear Welsh Mother that introduced my good self to it...

BTW, I love the scent.. But YMMV

PS I most often use Thayer's. but have also used generic no name brands equally well.

I always keep a bottle of Witch Hazel in my den. I enjoy a splash before I apply my ASB. Thayers makes a lovely rose scented WH.

Cheap stuff from Home Bargains is as good as any.
They also sell essential oils for leas than £2.
A few drops of Lavender essential oil in 100ml of witch hazel makes it a scented aftershave.

I have picked up some distilled witch hazel from Sainsburys. Do you dilute it slightly and spray?

Nope - just a splash into the palm of my hand and then gently rub it around my face.

Tried it the other day for the first time.

Gives the skin a pleasant tingle and a nice feel. Not overly keen on the smell but I can live with it.

As was said a few drops of an essential oil of your choice can overcome the the smell.

Which witch hazels in uk contain alcohol and which not? Bought my 1st witch hazel from boots last week. Ingredients mention 100% Distilled Witch Hazel. Does this mean alcohol free, or any witch Hazel has 14% alcohol after distilled?

Superdrug witch Hazel has ethanol in the ingredients so not sure if this is added afterwards or not

Unless alcohol is mentioned in the ingredients I think it’s safe to assume there is non. Ethanol is alcohol with an additive to make it undrinkable. Distilled witch hazel does not have any alcohol - it has to be added after or during distillation. Thayers products come both with and without alcohol - Astringent and Facial Toner respectively.

Thank you. So I can assume boots one is alcohol free, superdrug's contain alcohol. Have to buy the superdrug's to check how it feels in my face too.
