Witch Hazel Toner use.

My Thayers Witch Hazel Facial toner arrived yesterday. Used it last night before going up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire. Pinched a cotton swab disc off Mrs Sideburns and squeezed some onto that and swabbed down my face. Nice sensation afterwards.
This morning after shaving and patting dry my face I poured some out onto my hand and splashed on. Again, a lovely sensation, definitely a milder sensation than using after shave balm.
Mrs Sideburns later on today gave me a refillable pump action spray atomiser, so will try using that tomorrow after shaving.
Do you splash on or mist it Witch Hazel over your face?

Fair enough — I was more wondering how precise people are with it, given the preservative and pH-balancing ingredients. I know it’s standard cosmetic chemistry, but I’d still rather keep it out of my mouth.

After reading this, I read the instructions…

As mentioned above just above, I use it just like aftershave splash. It's excellent for more aggressive razor shaves when you don't want to face the Home Alone effect.

I have never read the instructions as per the cotton pad thing. I just use it as I saw on the internet when I first started shaving. Squirt it out and apply liberally. So many of the zero alcohol splashes now are witch hazel based.

Give it a go. You won't regret it. 👍

I second everyone above. Splash it on. I‘m usually a pretty open minded guy, but I just can’t deal with misters << that looks weird. They creep me out.

Otoh, I know there are some people who say they enjoy a good misting.

Tbh, I have always just bought plain Witch hazel from the chemist section of the supermarket and splash it on. I know it has some alcohol in it, but its never caused any issues for me.

Have heard so much love for Thayers that i really must try it one day.

Found this on the Holland & Barrett website. It’s on a deal at the moment.
Ordered a couple of bottles to try 400ml under £10

I bought this from the local branch of Holland and Barrett. Its a big fat stick of Alum for £5 and it works well as aftershave alum + you can sort your armpits with it too :)

That’s really helpful to know - I hadn’t realised or looked up the other uses of Alum. Thanks.
I’m pretty lucky, I have the same small block of Alum I bought in the 80’s. I hardly use it now, though when I started out DE shaving I used it as part of the routine - emulating the influencers I’d seen on YT and the Turkish Barber who gave me my first ever proper shave back in the day.
