Why the emphasis on the material of a razor in the wet shaving world?

Zamak is really not the best material to go ice climbing with, or use to pull up carpets, and don't get me started on it's tactical intruder repulsion capabilities.

i still consider myself a newbie shaver but never did the thought come to mind that yea i got to think about the material of a razor, think its for the hardcore people who are really into shaving and probably those who are specific about the stainsteel steel type? just an assumption

I started shaving with a DE a little over 50 years ago and at that time the DEs were not made of Zamak but brass and then plated. Now, those vintage DEs, depending on the amount of use, can show considerable wear. There can also be problems with bent parts from dropping on a hard surface.

Now that I have a choice in materials, I favour stainless steel which goes a long way to preventing bending of parts that can happen with soft brass and there is no finish to wear through. To me it is just a more practical material to use in making DEs.

I don't think that I have ever had the misfortunate to drop a razor with a blade when it was in use. If ever that did happen I am confident that my rapid footwork could rival that of Riverdance - in terms of getting out of the way!

Have seen vintage OC DEs with bent jaws. Yes, on the footwork but if you try to catch it could be a different story.

yea true i suppose with time theres more advancement and more options so yea you make a good point there

can the teeth on a OC stainless steel bend if it drops or is it more durable?

i dont have any stainless steel oc razors i dont think but i think the slant ikon x3 is stainless steel, could be wrong about the head but the handle is defo ss

It's aluminium.

Any metal will bend with enough force but stainless steel will survive a drop in a bathroom easily.
