Today, I bumped into a dog walking acquaintance of mine. We usually exchange a few minutes of conversation on my daily walks several times weekly over the last few years. I do enjoy talking to him, and like him as a person, and his elderly Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Today's conversation was a conversation I was not expecting. He came straight out with it; he told me he was terminally ill with cancer, and they had given him weeks. I just couldn't say anything. What an awful moment that was. I put my hand on his shoulder, looked him in the eye briefly, I had tears in my eyes, and just walked away.
