The trouble with advice on insurance and insurance claims is that the rules and application of those rules varies greatly depending on where you live.

That sentence has greater application than I thought.

There is a principle of Uberrima fides or utmost good faith, meaning, in summary, that what you do must be honest and honourable, this is a principle of UK insurance law and although it still applies in one small area only to the Americas it is different to the UK, the Americas applies the doctrine to marine insurance only and your Courts have moved away from utmost good faith in favor of broad consumer protection laws for other general insurances.

I found this surprising.

In the UK, if you buy insurance knowing that there is a certainty or even a strong likelihood that you will be making a claim and your insurer finds out then you will have problems not least of which is that the insurance company will involve the Police and you will have problems in buying insurance generally including mandatory motor insurance.

Suggest we park it there!
