What is Classic Barbershop Scent to you?

fine american blend is equivalent to ysl rive gauche, paa cad is somewhat similar, but more compared to a barbasol scent. van yulay makes a la rive scent, never owned, but supposed to mimic rive gauche. razorock american barbershop also supposed to be a rive gauche clone. ginger’s garden will often do custom scents as well.

US barbershop: cheap bay rum & Pinaud Clubman talc
UK barbershop: Pashana
Canadian barbershop: JM Fraser's cream & Booster Polar Ice
Italian barbershop: Proraso "evergreen" or Cella (any almond soap) with Floid Amber or Vitos Aftershaving
Turkish barbershop: Arko & lemon cologne

German barbershop: Tabac

And that's what I associate with a barbershop scent.

That whole Pinaud Clubman barbershop thing doesn't say anything to me ... that is not how I remember the barbershop in the village where I grew up.

Thanks for that. Van Yulays Rive isn't offered on Maggard which makes it hard to get for me.
Ordered the CaD, RR American Barber and Oleo Irving Park (rive gauche clone as well). We'll see which one is the best

I have the Fine and the Razorock variants. Both are good. Both are at least cologne strength, so be careful you don't overdo them. The Fine starts out better but over time the Razorock ends up smelling better in my experience. I believe the Fine now costs nearly double the Razorock, which to my mind is a consideration.

Clubman certainly is the typical barber shop scent in the US, though barbers use much more Clubman talc than after shave. It really is ubiquitous here. Regarding your comment; yes, some Americans seem to assume that everyone posting in English must be in America ;-) But I am sure that's a universal thing (recently on another forum, someone was seriously surprised that I was contributing, but I didn't live in the UK ... welcome to globalisation ;-) ).

They're not entirely wrong, the creeping Americanisation of not only the UK but also the continent shows no sign of abating.

Never could bring myself to buy Booster Polar Ice @ $16.52/400ml when I can get AV Ice Blue @ $4.97/235ml X2 = $9.94/470ml. Yup, your basic cheap skate.
