What are your top three De safety razors?

Today, only based on those I've tested so far :
  1. Merkur 20C
  2. Gillette 7 o'clock Sterling (a "made in India" Tech-like)
  3. Lunawerk Solingen Travel Safety Razor (Gillette "old" type like)

Those I didn't enjoy :
  • Mühle R89 Rosegold (don't know, maybe the short thick handle ? the balance ? I'll give it another try...)
Those I disliked :
  • Wilkinson Sword Classic (it's not agile, it feels like it's not deburred)
Those I didn't try yet :
  • Gibbs "M35" (french military issue)

From the man who only has one 'go to', an ancient Gillette Tech, it is noticeable that there is such a variety of opinion amongst posters.

Could you consider posting the reason for your choice at #1

My Tech wins for me because it never cuts me, unlike any of my other razors, I like the short handle and the quality of the materials, it is also not slippery when wet.

My #1 is the Karve Christopher Bradley in stainless steel.

I love the bead-blasted finish, the build quality and the looks, and the multiple plate options make it easy to find one that you like. The OC B plate shaves very much like a Gillette New, the SB B plate shaves very much like a Tech, my two favourite vintage razors. As I bought the daily shaver kit I also have plates C and D for if I want a bit more aggression. It's a razor that I can just pick up and know I'm going to get a good shave out of.

I don't really have a list of top "n" razors, more like a pool of favourites that's larger than just three razors.
But if I had to decide, then, probably, in no particular order:
- stainless steel PAA Ascension,
- Henson Al13 medium (either v1 or v2 is fine, though v2 has a slight edge),
- Gillette old type

Those are the ones I wouldn't hesitate to repurchase, assuming I'd have to and had the funds.
But I could just as easily choose to go for a stainless steel PAA META-4, Yaqi Harlequin, Slope or Telstar, RR Mamba, BBS AS, Lupo 72 OC, Wunderbar, Game Changer JAWS 68, Greencult 1.1 or the The Razor Company's aluminium or steel razor.

They're all relatively mild razors that are easy to handle, I can nail the shaving angle without thinking about it much, clamp the blade very well and pretty close to the cutting edge, are very smooth shavers and they always deliver great results with little effort.
