Wet Shaving is not Rocket Science, or finding The Cure for Cancer

I am going to make an observation, flame me if you wish, but IMHO Wet Shaving iso an activity that is skill based. Nothing more but learning basic, and improving technique for good results.

Be it with SE, DE, Straight or? It id like many things in life, you learn by doing, improve by doing, and eventually develop good Technique, and after that mussel memory kicks in and the process goes smother & faster.

Occasionally you loose concentration, or get distracted, and nicked, or cut yourself.

Can’t learn to do anything by watching U-Tube, or Reading Book or Forums. Experience comes by doing, time & experience is great teacher.

Trail & Error are also great teacher is you learn from those experiences.

Trial and error is a hard teacher. I am an advocate for mentoring and apprenticeships. However, this requires a teachable spirit. Some folks force themselves to learn from trial and error because they are convinced, they already know or know more than someone who actually knows something.

I gleaned broadly when learning to use a straight razor. I learned about beard mapping from the forums. I learned the benefit of multiple passes from forums. I learned about blades, soaps, and brushes from forums. I learned how to hone form YouTube and forum members who stopped to help.

I think this is an interesting conversation which reflects how individuals learn personally. We are all very different. I am a strong visual learner who combines learning from what I see with the mistakes I make so I think I fall in between the above two opinions.

I would add that some of the information other forum members have shared with me about their journey have helped mine massively and sped up my learning process. Help on how to shave certain parts of the face or what blades to use etc. can really make a huge difference. The kindness of those willing to share knowledge and or hardware/software is also something which cannot be underestimated.

What makes apprenticeships so compelling (FOR ME) is the combination of theory and practical experience with a master followed by practicing. Over time we are able to do what our master does and in the way she/he does it. Additional open mindedness allows us to learn new and/or better ways.

Back long ago when I first Wet shaved, in 1960’s.

We had no Forums, or U-Tube, we learn by doing.

Today there are all sort of resources with how tops.

But at some point you got to just do it.

Expierence is great teacher.

Recall back in 65 in Military we had first time Shaver, most drew blood.

Because everything wss at triple time.🤯

K.I.S. ='s Keep it simple, don't make big deal out of little stuff.

Experience, and Time are great teacher.

Can learn to Fly Fish from a Book, you need to get your line in the water.

Going with the flyfishing analogy, a guide / casting instructor really make your learning curve flatter, and your time on the water much more enjoyable and productive.
