Vito's Red Thoughts please

It's a great soap, Wayne. There's a thread on it somewhere here. Many fans, including myself.
Great performance and lasts forever. The only downside is you may get bored of the scent (Marzipan/Almond)

It's a professional Barber's soap used in Italy for shaving customers. Another brilliant budget item that punches way above it's price tag!

i agree, rather like it.
I wouldn't put it top of my list, but definitely on my list.
Except I react just a little to it, so i don't use it.
Great post shave. Possibly not as good post shave as MWF, but in the same game at least.

I got irritation from it, but perhaps that's just me.
This has not happened to me with any other classic/traditional almond Italian soap.

I believe Cella is a bit better with respect to the performance, but still, Vitos is a classic Italian soap that delivers (especially the red one).

It's one of my favourite soaps, a really slick glossy lather. A nice mild amaretto scent when it's new but it loses it's scent quickly.

The post shave feel isn't as moisturising as MWF, but IMO it's not always a bad thing, especially on hot days when using MWF can be a little too much. It's much easier to lather than MWF too, works with a variety of brushes from my experience as well.

I bought a block, which I haven't received yet, on spec. Has anyone used it and what is it like please?
One of my favourite and most used shaving soaps...I have several blocks under wraps, after rumours surfaced that they may re-formulate. A top-tier performing soap that makes even Monsavon look over priced :). I cut off about 200g at a time from the block and mould into x NSS wide tubs. I shrink wrap the blocks and store them at the bottom of a cupboard, I have had no problems to date. And I prefer it to the many US artisan soaps I have tried.

Brilliant tip thank you. I have just bought some Ampulla tubs so am not short of tubs to decant into, however I think I went over the top with 1kg so may have to offload half.

The cost of postage will equal the cost of half a block...if the soap works for you keep it! who knows how long it will still be available...

Yes indeed. The current tallow version of Vito's is supposedly going out of production (I'm sure I've seen correspondence from the manufacturer somewhere to back this up).

It's much less susceptible than Cella to going rancid

Page 7, it seems to suggest it has been reformulated into a vegan soap but that catalogue came out a while back and the Vitos soaps still seem to be in their tallow formulation.

Good advice. I think it might be better to cut into chunks when the block is fresh and softer, as the soap ages it becomes harder from my experience. I myself prefer to use smaller chunks as from my experience I find the scent seems to go once the soap gets used for a while.

I think I might buy myself a block of Vitos Green after reading this thread. I used VRC this morning and forgot how much I loved the soap.

I really don’t like the scent but still use this soap as it’s performance is superb.

I’ve passed out several lots to colleagues at work I’ve converted to wet shaving

Agreed on the scent, it dissipates very quickly after opening...

It's good soap Wayne, for sure. Chris @Shaverrific666 and I recently compared it directly to Boellis Panama 1924 which costs £35 for 175g and there's not a lot in it... Almond scent on the more expensive soap was a little more refined to my nose but neither of us could really tell them apart for lather quality.

Vitos Red is good soap, voluminous, slick, dense lather, a bit better than Cella for me.

However, I found Vitos new line soaps, with different scents, a much better performer and much closer to the artisan offerings, especially in the density and slickness area.
