Yes, i know what you mean. The tyres on my VW are down to 3mm so it is something I am thinking about with the added complication that the wheels have the white worm. Alloy wheel restorers tell me that they can restore the diamond cut wheels for £80 a wheel but the wrom will be back within a year or so, a simple repaint will be £40 a wheel. No idea how this worm gets there, the wheels are cossetted and the car has low mileage.
I am tempted to buy a new set of non VW wheels and alloys but that is going to be the best part of £1000, perhaps more. as opposed to £800 for a refurb and new tyres.

Yeah - never understood how low profile tyres have less rubber but cost more!

I never understood why folk put rubber band tyres on 4x4s. Sort of defeats the purpose to my mind.

The suspension on my Golf is hard, you feel the bumps in the road. The wheels are 18 inches. The Winter tyres and wheels that I put on are 17 inches with slightly higher profile, the ride is so much better, to be honest I look forward to fitting them each December.

Suspension on my 308CC is rock hard, coupled with low profile 18” you feel every bump, not good. Obviously another factor is the weight, it’s a 2litre diesel, hard top convertibl, so there is extra weight in body strengthening. It will be going sometime hopefully not to long away.
The Audi wheels are pretty low profile. Makes the road bumpy, driving around the M25 the road noise resonates into the car which is a annoying as it's pretty loud!

My BMW Z4 came with run-flat tyres. These tyres, with their very hard side walls, combined with a hard sport suspension resulted in a spine jarring ride. After about a year of feeling knocked about I replaced the run-flats with a set of ultra high-performance radials and the ride and handling are far superior. In addition, the new tyres were about half the price of the run-flats.

My BMW had run flats too, I have had one puncture in a Golf in 6 years, the BMW with runflats had three punctures in a year, including one with a new tyre that had covered 20 feet.
I must admit that having standard run flats could easily put me off buying that car.

And park them on the pedestrian street or over other cars if possible just to stop and buy a pair of shoes.
