Thinking of engaging in a pre-shave ritual again ...

I start with a face wash and a Steamed towel.
Courtesy of a Tefal steam cooker. Shh don't tell the missus.
Self made Pre shave oil made from Calendula oil and Bio-Oil, again don't tell the missus.
(Which is a specialist skincare oil that helps improve the appearance of scars,skin)
Anyhow a wash, then a hot towel, followed by some oil.
Use a hot towel to gentle remove excess oil if any, Lather up.
Finish with alum.
I stay away from anything to do with mint, it brings out a rash.

I've been having great success with a couple of spots of oil as a pre shave. Zirh Prepare being the best. Seems to set things up nicely. It too me makes a noticeable difference.

I bought in a tub of Proraso ...
I've used it a few times and while the menthol is nice, it just doesn't really fit with my routine. Not pre, nor post. I just don't like the stuff. Prep is now off the list as it's a very similar product. I'd love to know who made the old pre/post for Edwin Jagger. That, I liked.

I was looking at the ingredients in the Zirh pre-shave. It looked good till I saw the Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, Isopropylparaben
Many of these Parabens are banned under the EU, I have included a link below which will show this and there is a small snippet next.
(Earlier this year, the Commission banned the use of five other parabens in cosmetic products - Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Phenylparaben, Benzylparaben and Pentylparaben (See Commission Regulation (EU) No 358/2014) due to the lack of data necessary for reassessment. Products placed on the market after 30 October 2014 will have to be free from these substances.)

Given that the UK is leaving the EU, you have no worries.

I'd imagine that dispite leaving the EU they would follow the same.
Only two / three drops, so I'm not bathing myself in the stuff and it's 'washed away' in a good lather.

I really don't like oil ... I've tried Nuage for Men, grapeseed oil, a home blend of oils and lemon juice, all sorts. I don't like oil ... thanks for the suggestion though.
I don't need a pre-shave, just really enjoyed the mentholated feeling pre and post shave. I think I'll just pop a drop or two of Olbas Oil into a bottle of witch hazel for a cooling post-shave tone.

I have Prep but I use it just for afrer shave. I really enjoy in cooling effect. For me is very good cream. Plus, you can use it for lot of other things like insect bites, diaper rash, etc.
As aftershave cream it soothes the skin and face is soft and smooth.
Now i think next time I try it as preshave.

I've started doing the hot towel thing, even tho' I try to get the razor to my face 3-5 minutes after showering. Don't like oil, except to condition my 'tache.
I always put on Noxema 10-20 mins before I shower, and use a home-mixed pre-shave that is a good alternative to the Proraso menthol (Noxema, glycerine, witchhazel, rose + lavender water), in-between passes, and as an aftershave.

My pre-shave ritual has changed over time. Years ago it was just a splash of warm water and then lather. Then I started using a home-made PSO, then I discovered Proraso white, green, and red preshave cream. All of which I really enjoy. I also sometimes use Noxema Classic cream as a preshave. Lately, however, I seem to be back to just splashing warm water. I like to alternate just to mix things up.
