Guys, this was my first exhilarating shave in months, and had to share!
First pass, Feather DX and Kai Pink. A legit, full pass. Not just the flat spots. It was some of the funnest shaving excitement I’ve had in a dozen years. No kidding. There was no irritation, redness, soreness, cuts, nicks, weepers. Nothing.
Second pass, Gillette Aristocrat and Viking’s Sword. As much as I dig the TTOs in my E1 group, and all the other varieties that have passed through my den, this is my favorite Gillette TTO. Every time out is always a rich and fabulous shave. I don’t know why. It just is. The blade was courtesy my friend Steve @Paper Plane. I break them out for special occasions, Steve. Today it was absolutely brilliant!
Today’s brush, of course, was my bespoke BSSW custom Arley. It’s a dense, slightly gelled 26mm knot fitted into the heftier handle intended for the 28mm knot. Brad said no one had ever asked him to do that until I did. It remains a favorite in my rotation.
Not one scented soap or cream in my drawer called to me. Not a one. Some even gave me a resounding, “No!” So I whipped out and whipped up a righteous unscented lather with my cherished puck of Valobra made, tallow based, triple milled, AoS shaving soap. Yes, it is righteous stuff, gentlemen. Rich, dense, creamy, smooth, slick, cushioning… go take a cold shower… If you are lucky to have used any of the AoS or Valobra soaps, you know of what I speak. Come to think of it, I really should start using and enjoying them more often rather than just letting them age gracefully in a box on my shelf.
Post shave splashing was accomplished with the ubiquitous and ever refreshing Fine’s Snake Bite, and the most recent Bay Rum house dressing from Chez chazt (might be my best blend yet!). There was zero negative feedback. Positive reinforcement included a fabulous but fleetingly brief chill and the free king awesome island scent I concocted!
