Greetings,
A very eclectic old & new shave set up to start the weekend... Last week I was kindly gifted a puck of vintage Surrey shaving soap, a puck of vintage Williams mug shaving soap & a sample of Ralph Lauren Safari ASB. received a message from a honourable member of TSR forum.
I have started with the Surrey shaving soap the verdict?. Let me start by saying that I initially gave both of the soap puck/round a quick hand clean with hot water to remove any nasties or imaginary ones that the soap my have had on it's surface, letting of it air dry for a while, I repeated the same cleaning process with the Williams soap also.
Before I started to lather I let it bloom for a minute in warm tepid water in my shaving mug I don't normally soak or bloom soaps as I find it unnecessary YMMV, but because it's a vintage soap a quick bloom I thought a quick bloom will help to activate the soap ingredients …Using my damp boar brush, I'll try a synthetic brush at a later date with both soaps I lathered up for 30 seconds, pouring the bloom water out before hand and was rewarded with a impressive acceptable lather, it wasn't a "Santa Claus Beard Lather" granted, but I prefer a thinner lather to thick dense one it's slick & protective are very good, I had more than enough lather for the full shave without going back to reload my brush dipping the tips of the brush in cold water, more importantly it didn't dissipate or dry out in between each pass, the soap didn't have any adverse reaction to my rhino type skin or resulting in my face & head to flare up to looking like a baboons arse

.. Scent wise it has a very faint clean soap scent, considering it's age it's scent has almost faded away, which isn't a issue for me, as I like a soap for it's performance, over it's scent. Besides that, because the soap scent has virtually no scent I can pair with any post shave application.
Over all impressions? a great vintage shaving soap of which I look forward to adding to my soap rotation again in future shaves...I will use the vintage Williams mug shaving soap in my Sunday morning shave to see how it performs.
A enjoyable close comfortable combined face & head shave with no errors to report. Finishing the shave off with a with a few small squirts of Milton Lloyd Essentials No9 Bergamot & Patchouli EdP to the pulse points.
My face & precious swede are feeling smooth & smelling divine.
Stay safe, and enjoy the start of the weekend ladies & gentlemen.
