23 January 2026
Overall Rating: ★★★★★ (Epic Shave!)
Smoothness: ★★★★★ (BBS Perfection)
Irritation: ★☆☆☆☆ (Zero Burn)

Time of Day: Morning ☀
Blade Uses: 1
Passes: 3

Razor: Above The Tie S1 Slant Slant SB
Blade: Gillette London Bridge
Soap: Martin De Candre Rose
Brush: Yaqi Bali Beehive
Pre-Shave: Mr Myrsol Emulsion
Aftershave: Mr Myrsol Plastic Shave

Notes: A very Rose themed shave today.
I had a cracking three pass face shave and a single pass head shave and if I was any smoother, you would have thought I was the inspiration for Micheal Jackson's Smooth Criminal.
Enjoy the day folks.

It’s been an enjoyable outing for one of my least used razors. Every time I think about selling it I use it and know why I still have it. Also I find GEM blades remind me to maintain the correct angle, I find I can get sloppy with AC for DE blades but GEM keep me honest.

Pre-shave: Hot shower, and bloom water.
Razor: 1960 Gillette 195 Adjustable ( setting 7)
Blade: Feather (12th shave).
Brush: Yaqi 26mm Bluish Violet.
Bowl: Arran Stone.
Soap: Noble Otter Rainroot.
Post shave: Noble Otter Rainroot Splash.

Today saw the end of the Feather blade experiment.
it gave me one last otherwise great 3 pass shave but it left me with a parting gift of a couple of weepers which lead to me having to use the alum block for the first time in quite a while.
So off it went to the blade bank.

It felt appropriate to break out the rainroot for the first time as it's been bucketing it down with rain all through the night here.
I'm usually fairly sceptical when it comes to scents claiming to capture the more abstract, but I have to give it to Noble Otter here.
They've worked some kind of magic and managed to capture a true Petrichor scent.

A very distinct and recognisable smell of wet earth and damp grass, the freshness of greenery and a hit of ozone.
it's an amazing scent.
Much like Neon Sun, it lathered fantastically, took plenty of water and built to a well hydrated but thick, rich and extremely slick lather.

The splash is equally good.
I didn't detect the usual aftershave splash burn with this one but instead, a nice immediate cooling hint of menthol.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
