Sunday is a good day to pull a fresh tuck of Russian Astras from my stash. TOBS is still clinging to the wall of death. I was generous with it and worked up a stiff peak lather. I did two passes and a little buffing around my mouth. Nivea toned down the slight irritation and Stetson went on for the finish.

A wintry mix is expected here. Stay safe everybody. Luckily I don't have to be out in it.

First use of the Amakuni this morning. Naturally, it’s too early to draw any firm conclusions about the shave itself. However, I can confidently say that I love the design. While in use, the razor feels like an extension of your hand, with an intuitive shaving angle that makes the experience smooth and natural.

I experimented with two blades today—Proline and Kai Mild—and swapping blades mid-shave was effortless. Thanks to the magnet holding system, it was significantly easier and faster than with the Shield AC1 or Vector razors.

As for the shave itself. Unfortunately, I used too little soap, resulting in a disappointingly thin lather that offered minimal protection. Too lazy to return to the soap, I decided to push through to the end. Despite this, the Amakuni didn’t feel rough at any point. I’m also pleased to say it’s more efficient than I had anticipated from Tatara, especially compared to their adjustable razor. The Kai blade felt slightly more assertive, and the result on that side of my face was noticeably smoother.

I’ll definitely revisit both blades with a proper lather to explore their full potential, possibly with a bit more pressure.

Overall, it was a promising debut—even if I botched the lather.

I’ve still not used mine yet, however you’ve answered my question on whether proline blades fit this model, so that’s further good news.

absolutely superb shave, I have this razor fully dialed in now, this was my first shave at level 6 and I felt no need for me to up the levels like I did previous lower level shaves, it was perfect and the Wilkinson sword was a great match. I am a huge fan of this razor, the blade clamping and efficiency even in low levels is impressive. I look forward to going up to 7 next time, and perhaps taking out the brass insert to see how it feels being lighter. one thing is for sure, it’s a keeper. Next up Will be the Tatara SE but I do look forward to using the Osprey again.
