Simpson Brushes Appreciation Thread

This is proving to be an interesting read for me. I had always assumed the Chubby to be a bowl lathering brush based on my limited experience with a CH2 synthetic. What is a CH2 Manchurian comparable to in terms of feel? Is there a similar Oumo knot for comparison as an example? I assume it doesn't splay easily?

Chubbies are traditionally face lathering brushes because of their short, stubby handles.
The closest hair to Simpson Manchurian that I've used is the Shavemac D-01 2-Band, although that only really applies to post 2015/16. Knots preceding this date were typically soft-tipped and scritch-free out of the box. Since then, the Simpson Manchurian has been more variable with some still soft, but with others (majority) with initial scritch requiring a breaking in period. It's these latter knots of today that compare favourable with D-01 2-Band.

Thanks David. They've always intrigued me but I like soft brushes with reasonable splay. Despite the intrigue, I've always hesitated as I've assumed I'd spend a significant sum on the brush and not actually like it.

This Emperor 2 in Two Band Super just arrived today. While I cannot definitively date the brush, Two Band Super Badger has not been available in at least ten years... I think. At 21mm, I like the size of the knot, and the handle should be great for a bowl latherer such as my good self. The brush looked absolutely unused, but here it is after cleaning and a test lather.. I'm happy.
