I heard it said that a CH3 is merely a CH2 knot in a larger handle. Incorrect. I have several of both and owned more. The CH3 knot diameter is larger.

I couldn’t comment as my first Simpson brush was the chubby 3 emerald. And I have on order a trafalgar in copper ice. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long before it’s in my possession. On the website it says 2 weeks. I’m not educated enough to share my ten penneth. So I believe the man of the hour is David on the matter. Sincerest respects gentleman. As always. J. ❤🥃

@Optometrist thanks for your answer.
I Ask that because some say it's fine for shaving head and Big for the face.
But manchurian is not best badger or super etc... I need some informations before to buy one, maybe.
Several points to note.
Manchurian is thicker hair, so blooming is lower than Best, 2-Band SiLVERTiP or 3-Band Super, dimensions being constant.
Older Manchurian brushes(pre 2015) had lofts around 50mm and 54mm for CH2 and CH3, respectively. Today, they tend to be around 52mm for CH2 and even higher at 56/57mm for CH3. CH3 at this loft is ridiculous, IMO, for what is essentially a face lathering brush. Customs can be had back to old heights.

Your answer // manchurian hair confort me in m'y thought. Like the dimension loft.
Thats why on m'y chubby 2 manchurian i Ask 48 mm .For a chubby 3 i will certainly Ask 50 , 51 mm.
Thx for the help 🥃🙏

I wouldn't go that low on a CH3 Manchurian. For performance, 53mm would be my absolute minimum, 54mm being my favourite. Also, 52mm and lower, the knot/handle height ratio will look weird.

Standard dimension is 54 mm.
Thats why maybe , 52 , 51 Can be nice for me , at 54 mm it's much longer for me .
But i am in réflexion , no décision for thr moment about that.

Of course, @Optometrist is absolutely correct in charachterizing the Chubby family as face lathering machines. Being a confirmed bowl lather, I need to question my desire for a Chubby 2, as I'm quite sure I'd be better served by the Captain 2 in Manchurian at the "Black Friday" sale... Also, it's in traditional faux ivory...

Is that Captain now singing that siren song?

Perhaps the Chubby can wait?

Decisions... decisions...

The Captain simply isn’t big or dense enough. To get that full-on Manchurian experience you need a Chubby. I have a 3 and it’s enormous and completely OTT for face only shaving- but I’m worth it. I’ve had a Captain, Emperor and Duke and while the Captain had the best handle the knot wasn’t even up to a Duke 3 standard of density. There D3 was dense enough but not big enough.

If you're looking for a long handle for bowl lathering with a large Manchurian knot, perhaps a Polo could be custom ordered? (@Optometrist will have the answer!) The PL10 has a 27mm knot like the Chubby 2 but it's a bit higher at 54mm - but that could be ok in a bowl?
Michael, I've only owned one Polo, but as a face latherer, I didn't keep it. Ideal for bowl, yes. Mark is quite open to custom requests, these days. I guess you choose the polo handle size you want, then specify desired loft
