Simpson Brushes Appreciation Thread

I picked up this Simpsons brush that was made exclusively for Pakeman Catto & Carter.

According to their website they were: "For over 150 years Pakeman Catto and Carter were a bastion of quality British clothing."

It came boxed with instructions and looks like it has never been used.

That's an interesting brush, Steve, and unused. Congratulations.:)

Looks nice, one of the much maligned "pure" grade knots by the look of it? I found them to be pretty damn good... Very different but good nonetheless.

Pure badger is highly underrated. I have a Simpson pure and a shavemac pure both of which are excellent. I have to really concentrate to pick up just a hint of prickle when lathering and then only when I use a circular motion. Perhaps these two are not indicative of pure badger in general because they are high end brushes with both makers hand tying their knots.

Thats similar to my experience with a Simpsons Case in pure, it only prickled when using circular motions on the face and even then it wasn't an unpleasant feeling but does take getting used to. I started out DE shaving with a cheap Chinese pure and that was like lathering with a hedgehog! So yes, they vary quite a bit... I've always been curious about the Plisson pure's, lovely looking things and they charge a pretty penny for them but probably no more than Shavemac.
