Simpson Brushes Appreciation Thread

I used my Simpson QE II Jubilee brush with a Manchurian knot this morning. I hadn’t used it in some time and was reminded how much I like it. For the last two weeks I’ve been alternating my Colonel Best and my T2 Super, which are superb brushes, but the QE II clearly outshone both of them. I’ve owned several other Simpson Manchurians, but the face-feel and performance of the QE II Manchurian is quite different. Long ago I sold my other Manchurians because they were too dense and unyielding for my liking, unlike the QE II knot.

Whilst we’re on the topic of Simpson’s history, last year I contacted Progress Shaving Brushes (Vulfix), the current owner of Simpson, regarding the names of some of the Simpson brushes, eg, Duke, Major, Colonel, Wee Scot, etc, and other historical matters. They had no information at all and expressed no interest in acquiring any. I think I even sent Mark Watterson, the MD of Vulfix, an email about it as well. What a shame.

Edit: I found the response I received from Vulfix which was, ‘In all honesty, I really wouldn’t have a clue.’
A striking example of when everything is done for the sake of money, with complete disregard for culture, traditions, and history. Sad.

Like it or not, it's quite normal.
If you enter into a Rolex dealer no one will be able to give you historical information about reference and details about vintage models .
They try to sell current products.
The new generation of wet shavers is passionate about brushes made by artisans or latest generation Simpsons brushes .
We are a niche that tries to talk with those who have the same passion but they are always fewer.
However, if you are interested in knowing where the names come from, you can find everything on internet.

The situation is not analogous with a Rolex dealer. Progress (Vulfix) is the current owner of Simpson Brushes and is not a dealer as such. Moreover, Progress (Vulfix) plays up the Simpson ‘Heritage’ in its advertising. I note that the company has expanded on the Simpson historical information on its website since I last contacted them.

Hello friends!
Please tell me if anyone has any information about the Alexander Simpson Trafalgar HT2 Super Badger shaving brush. I searched for information on the Internet, but I didn't find anything

I don't know if they still have tortoise shell in stock as it's discontinued material by the manufacturer.
I've always found Faux tortoiseshell handles to white spec blemish easily. That was especially true of the semi-translucent rod that Simpson used a few years ago. Could this be a reason for discontinuation?

That type of material is polyester thermo cast resin. It's not the easiest to work with as it tends to chip as it's a bit brittle. I haven't noticed any of the handles I made from it to change it's colour over the time. The amount of soap residue that will hold onto it is not any different than on any material I worked with. I think the reason of discontinuation is that the manufacturer decided it's time for something new and that the demand has slowed down. There are some of the colours that in my opinion are still good looking from that series of materials and is a shame that they are discontinued.
