You really don't want to see a photo of my beat up 1999 SAAB 9-3 which stubbornly refuses to lay down and expire. However, I'd like your views on which of these I should replace it with for a cheapish hatchback with good visibility, access and space. No need for speed here:

I’ll like be getting a Fabia to replace my Mx5 after moving house (hopefully soon) so would recommend that. It’s the same chassis as my OH’s Polo and that’s got enough space for 5 adults and a basket of shopping. Or our two dogs to be clipped in the back seats pre/post-walkies.

We have just ordered an Octavia Estate SE Technology to replace the Skoda Yeti SE Tech. Yeti is a great car, Skoda make bloody good cars now, the insides are very good. The Yeti had a decent boot but the Octavia is huge ! As for the Peugeot above, I’ll get one small suitcase in the boot !!!

I know that feeling well with the Mx5!

My wife has a suitcase that just fitted nicely into the MX5 boot with a little space down either side, it was handy for a weekend away. Now there's three of us an MX5 is no longer an option although I'm hoping to have another one day.

It’s a bit awkward with two of us and two dogs! Fortunately got most of it out of my system for now so I can reapproach an Mx5 in the future. :okay:

We managed 4 up yesterday, but it’s not really a four seater, more of a 2+2. But it’s not what it’s about really. It’s about a weekend away with the Mrs and a cruise down the coast.

I’m needing to change the Seat Ibiza for something more future-proof. Once the baby’s car seat is in there’s little front passenger space and not a huge amount of room for transporting the usual paraphernalia. Our folks are 40 miles and 100 miles away and we have a few breaks in Snowdonia and Devon each year so we do need the space.

My daily commute is only 20-25 miles, although mostly on A roads, so I’m thinking an estate - probably petrol. I’m leaning towards a car loan on a one-to-three year-old motor with respectable (preferably motorway!) miles on the clock but there probably aren’t many options in that niche. I’m probably looking at VAG, Honda or (left field) Subaru, I guess...

The out going Yeti has been a fantastic car. Looks a bit different. Great boot space and the rear seat are on rails meaning you can squeeze in a bit more boot space. Our kids are older, but it would of been brilliant when they were younger. We got four large suitcases, four carry on bags, and four adults in it.

There should be quite a few coming up second hand ex pcp. But they are respected and sometimes sort after. Great engines, we had the 1.2 petrol which is used across the VAG range. I’ve been managing 48 mpg on urban. It’s nippy enough and the turbo helps it along.

Insurance was cheap enough, but me and SWMBO are over 50 with over 35 years driving each, full no claims and clean licences.

Look out for 17 plate Yeti’s, they were end of line, we had an SE technology with over £2,000 extras added on.

How about a Subaru Forester or Outback or possibly a Hyundai Tucson.

I had a Subaru Outback about 10 years ago. It was the LLBean version. The engine was pretty powerful making it fun to drive and it got us through the snow in comfort and style. Unfortunately we bought it in the first year when they totally changed the model and ended up with a failed moonroof motor and the beginnings of some transmission issues. Ended up trading it in for a Acura MDX. I miss the Outback.

Which rearward facing baby seat are you going for / already have Ben? The one I had was fecking MASSIVE and I needed a huge amount of rear 'leg' space.

Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus. It’s already pretty sizeable but, when we have to move up to a rear-facing seat for age 1+, room will be even more limited.
