Rockwell Model T

6S still pips the 'T' for me.
Do you have a recent production of the Model T? I have the 6C and the Model T at the same level (R3 and 3) gives a more deep shave with the same comfort level. The sweet spot for me Is 3.3 level on Model T: everytime a BBS with a three pass shave.
With my Model T the TTO mechanism Is perfect ( doors close without problems and the blade Is blocked correctly)

3.3 is an interesting calibration! I got the T last year after a significant wait on order. I must admit it has not had much use recently and I cannot remember the last setting that worked for me. I like the 6S on 4 so would go for that with the T. I am sure I have read somewhere that the gaps on the T correspond to the plates on the 6S.

The gaps are the same but the geometry of the head Is completely different and also the blade exposure. For this reason the Model T Is more efficient than the 6C-6S, with a little more of blade feel. I am a lover of quiet razors and the T belongs to them!

As a modern TTO, I have no complaints so far. I’ve been waiting for it to show a fault, a hiccup or just to somehow slowly deteriorate because of the so-called “inferior material” or “poor quality control” that many have defined or characterized it to be. Funny thing is that quite a few of those that have spoken negatively about the Model T from Rockwell have never actually used or even held the razor in hand. I won’t say that the razor is without its faults and the stories that are based upon fact are numerous of some of its failures, especially within the T-Bar assembly being a potential major weakness. For me and just me, the silo doors open and close smoothly. The blade tray holds the blade practically equally on both sides and exhibits equal blade feel on each side. The adjustment still works smoothly and fluidly as if on its first day of use. The quality and feel of shave that the Model T provides is actually quite good in my experience. Compared to the 6s, I find it a tad more aggressive at each stage of its adjustment and equally as smooth on feel. I’ve had the 6s some years ago and even had it in a pass around here for a few gents to try. Shave wise, I still think and believe that the Model T is the better shaver over its older razor sibling the 6s. It might lose out to the 6s in blade rigidity as a 3 piece design will always offer better clamping power over a tto design but, there is no need for one to think that the Model T does not hold the blade effectively because it does so surprisingly well.

Are there better options out there with more reasonable price points? Of course there are and the vintage adjustable Gillettes lead the way in tto land by a wide margin. Personally I think the bad rap that the Model T has received has been overblown and accentuated by some who despise or just don’t like the razor and what the manufacturer has tried to bring to the wet shave table. It’s a good razor that has cleaned up its reliability issues as far as I’ve seen in recent customer surveys. Just wait for a nice discount or sale. The price just might be a bit more justifiable for some. The good thing is that Rockwell will stand behind their product with very good customer service should one have an issue.

A great shave was had today. Great shaves to all….

Nearly 7 years in with this Model T and not a single issue to report. Granted, I haven’t shaved with it on a daily basis and to be fair, it’s probably somewhere between 50-75 shaves in those years. Still feels tight though with the adjustment knob working flawlessly and the TTO movement still holding down the blade against the blade tray. Finish is impeccable as if it were just pulled out of the box new. A little big and slightly top heavy with some bulk but, it still gets the job done with ease and comfortably so.
