Recommend me a Barbershop soap.

Sauntering past the bathroom this morning I couldn't help but nip in and have a quick soap sniffing session (surely I can't be the only one?!?)

I quickly realised to my utter horror that I own nothing that could be considered 'barbershop' even though I'm not sure what barbershop smells of.

Want I want is an all rounder that will go with pretty much any post shave scent.

Please help rectify this sad state of affairs via recommendation. Thank you gents.

To recommend barbershop, one has to define barbershop, and I think you have more chance of world peace than us wetshavers deciding on what exactly barbershop is

That said, TOBS Sandalwood always reminds me of barbershops I visited as a youngster.

I'm with Nick. But I do think that many of the more bergamot centred ones (like Stirling and Mike's) are a bit too fresh. Barbershop needs some moss, herbs and florals and to be somewhat musky. The traditional manly scents are barbershoppy to me. Wickhams would have a few, Fine American Blend would do the trick, as would B&M Seville.

My local barbershop (that still do wet shaves) use Proraso exclusively... Oh the disappointment.

Barbershop can be a bit like asking for a summer scent. Some may say heather fields, others daffodils and roses, others freshly mown fields. As stated above Mike's Barbershop smells exactly like an Italian barbershop I used to visit in my youth. Slightly warm musky scent with a clean type (not aqua or 'cologne') fragrance engraved in the overall bouquet.

The only barber shops I've been into stank of old leather, old spice and old men. Therefore I never really 'get' the whole barbershop scent.

Mikes Barbershop is great but a bit hard to source.
Again Barrister and Mann another great scent but I wouldn't call it barbershop.
As always, Barbershop scent is very subjective.
The first barbersI used to go to when I was young stank of Brylcreem and Cossack hairspray.
So thankfully no artisan has decided to come out with that scent.....yet.
