Razors just get better

I have a small collection of razors now, nothing rare or uber expensive but they all shave me really well. The thing is,everyone I get just seems better than the last, take the last two I acquired the Rocca, superb on my face. I thought surely this cannot be topped but then came the O.C Blackbird and blow me but it is better! I can't believe it but it is. The only poor razors I have bought recently have been a Timeless, couldn't get on with that and a One blade Core, shaves well but I aint paying that much for blades that deteriorate so quickly. I have something else coming which I wont mention yet that is every bit as good as the Rocca and BB. Damn, razors just get better and better.

I have either been 1) lucky 2) learned how to shave 3) educated from reading ATG. My recent 2017 purchases of B&R Adjustable, Charcoal Goods, and Guerrilla have all been exceptional. All my other razors have been sold (including two razors to Wayne which he probably re-sold). Even the "child like impulse buyer in me" has no desire for any other razors currently on he market.

I only sold one Howie and only recently. The Hone was just too mild for me. Lovely looking but it just wasn't cutting the mustard, or whiskers come to think of it. The Rockwell is a keeper and my travel razor as I bought the SS model for the shelf.

It isn’t impossible that each consecutive razor is better, but it is unlikely. More likely factors include improved technique and a certain element of what psychology calls choice-supportive or post-purchase bias. I.e. you (as do all of us) justify for yourself a recent purchase by thinking it’s better than what you already had. At the same time, with more razors tried, you do learn what are the traits and types you prefer, so I’ll concede some element of truth to your claim.

Dear Mr Knowitall, Thank you for the input lol. I know it may come across as my mind wanting me to like something as it is new but it really isn't as said with the Timeless and Hone both totally not to my liking and were recent purchases. Not many would class the Timeless as a poor shaver but it just didn't click for me. I wanted to keep it, I did everything I could think of to like it but I just didn't same for the Hone. It's not psycho anything just pure luck that the last 3 razors I have tried and bought have all for me been outstanding, if they don't come up to their mark I don't want them on my shelf hence the Oneblade Core which I'm trying to give a new home to.

You win some, you lose some. Always nice when a blind purchase turns out to be a good decision. I've had the complete opposite experience with the Rockwell, turns out the "all things to all men razor" is not for me.

I would love to get my mitts on a Rocca, may have to chase up Christian Müller later and tell him to pull his finger out

Hi Besserwisser:
- I would agree with @Wayne - I like B/S/T for modern razors I wanted to like but did not (Hone 15a, Blackbird, etc)
- You are correct on technique. I can see becoming more proficient shaving, I can also see a razor complimenting poor technique.
