Btw wanted to ask I always noticed that the vintage shaving stuff seems to come with talcum powder or talcum powder holders or the likes and I was wondering what was it used got back in the day for shaving?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you may be referring to shave stick and shaving brush holders. In grooming sets, the cylindrical tube containers, with holes in the lids, usually have either a brush or a soap stick within.

I’ve recently stopped using pre shave creams and I swear I’m getting a better shave. The shave is smoother and I’m much less inclined to nick myself for some reason.

A couple more recent observations. I’ve been using Razorock XXX recently and it’s the first “hard” soap I’ve used, having previously used Proraso and TOBS which are more creams. I much prefer the razorock. I seem to get more protection with it without affecting the shave. It’s also seems to last much better. I’ve had numerous shaves with it and theres barely a dent in it.
I’ve also switched from adjustable back to my Henson medium and I’m really enjoying it this time around. Much more so than when I got it originally. Maybe I’m just getting better at shaving. I decided to switch the blades up as well and tried some feathers as I had a 5 pack lying around. Previous when I tried them I found them tuggy and really cut myself up. I found them very unforgiving. This time around though I’m getting on great with them and getting a nice shave. It makes me want to experiment with more blades now in the Henson as if I can handle the feathers I’m sure I can handle most.

Maybe something has just clicked with me with the Henson but I’m having effortless shaves with it. Long may it continue.

been really struggling recently as not been having any motivation shaving,
so just been using the leaf razor for last like as I've been wanting it just over and done with anyways normally I change blades after 1 or 2 uses but I cba changing the blade and it seem like 5 shaves on the same perma sharp blades is defo the limit as on the 5th shave it did pull and tug a bit more then usual

I've been getting 7 shaves from a blade. These are all 4 pass shaves using Derby Extra, Gillette Silver Blue, King C Gillette and Rockwell blades. As usual some are a bit better than others but all do the job.

So you don't find extra shaves from sharper blades? As I see you mentioned derby extra which areca bit more on the milder side for me YMMV

I am quite happy to pitch the old blade after 7 shaves. Some blades are a little smoother and sharper after 7 shaves than others but all gave 7 serviceable shaves. Consider too, that it seems a lot of members are happy with the results from a one or two pass shave as opposed to 4 passes which I do. I also don't know if those doing fewer passes use the same blade for 7 shaves or pitch them sooner. Then there is also the difference in whiskers which can make a blade unserviceable sooner rather than later.

There are too many variables to come to any conclusion about how many shaves you should get out of a blade or which blade is the best blade. You find those answers out by experimenting to see which is best for you and not someone else. It is the old YMMV thing.

finally got around to using the ted baker hybrid razor (closed/open comb)

Really surprised was a nice comfortable shave with a fresh nacet and I'd say I prefer the ted baker razor over the yaqi flipside razor

Anyone else used this razor?

The handle was loose and didn't like it so put the ikon ss handle with the ted baker head and I think it looks really nice, will try to take a pic when I get a chance

Yea bit of a strange one as it feels bit more efficient on the safety bar on the ted baker and more efficient on the open comb side of the yaqi flipside

Got a feeling I need to check if the blade is aligned proper on the ted baker razor next time just to make sure all is good.

The handle on the yaqi flipside is large and bit more on the heavier side and like the design of the bottom of the handle

If you have them both, you might also want to compare them in the same shave with the very same blade and handle, just to make things more even.
