People with Disability wet-shaving

Great to read your story @Celar36 and very brave of you to post it. My disability is of the mental variety i.e chronic depression and anxiety. Both conditions are long term and I've had a myriad of treatments and medications over the years. Had a visit to my psychiatrist today and he upped my night time anti-psychotic (I'm not aggressive, it's just part of a combination medication regime). I also have obstructive sleep apnoea which wipes me out in the morning as it is untreated. Ultimately, I've had to give up work and now receive an ill-health retirement pension for which I am very fortunate and grateful.

I don't have anywhere near the difficulty shaving that you do but occasionally my hands don't respond to my brain's instructions and they can be pretty shaky. Sometimes I get in in a rut with bad technique despite being a fairly practised hand at DE shaving. I get pretty low about this and beat myself up. Even though I know I'm doing it and can recognise the signs, sometimes I end up going down the rabbit-hole and don't shave for a couple of weeks. For example, I didn't have my first shave this year until two weeks or so into the year.

I applaud your efforts, determination and will. As we say in Scotland, "Lang may yer lum reek!" (Google it...)

A' the best,
Graeme :D

Hi Graeme,

My good friend have severe anxiety and I send him to America Santa Maria Novella Lozenges. He put them under tongue to dissolve.

They are really expensive at £8 a pot but worth it. I like them too. Also I bought him in SMN a lavender oil (really lovely) to sniff.

Hope you ok and remember you have bunch of freaks here as friends!

@Gairdner let me know if you want some SMN products. I am happy to pop in to store. Not a problem

Just on a general note, weight of shaving gear probably makes a real difference for a number of people with various disabilities. I have post-polio syndrome, with progressive muscle and strength loss in my upper extremities, especially my dominant left arm, and I am finding that titanium razor handles are significantly easier for me to use than stainless steel handles and smaller, acrylic and wooden handled brushes are easier for me to maneuver than larger and stone handles brushes.
