I'm giving a present to an older gent as a birthday present and I've gone for a mixed badger/bristle brush with some Proraso green.
Easy to use, makes shaving fun.
I know that's two things, I can't be giving him a brush without a nice soap and vice versa.

For me it has to be a scuttle (assuming that people are using brush and soap/cream anyway) as I do love warm lather and these things keep it so effortlessly.

Since you travel a lot for work and have already selected a soap stick, I'd recommend a quality synthetic shaving brush such as a Muhle Sivertip Fibre V2. I use this combo. when I travel because I can have both in my carry-on when I fly, along with a cartridge razor. As well, the synthetic brush lathers up a real storm and dries in no time, which is really important if your changing locale every day and have to pack up your gear.
