I did a test lather with Oud Santal. The bery first lather was good, although a bit finicky. But the final result was good, and the lather was creamy as I like. The same thing happened with Cedre Orange.

I left both to dry according to the instructions, the soap went harder.

When I decided to use them again after some months, I bloomed them first and try to make a lather. But nothing happened, was thin, airy, and not creamy. Tried a third and fourth time, loaded really hard and went very slowly with water addition. Nothing..

Then I emailed Cyril, who asked for a sample of both. I sent him two big samples, almost 50gr each.

He tested them and told me that he made a good lather from both. It wasn't true I believe or I don't know how to lather a damn soap from my small den (1-2 soaps).

He sent though one 100gr of new batch of Oud Santal and guess what. The first lather was great, but the following.... disaster.

As kings @Wayne & @Rowlers had said, in the bin it went, along with the 200gr of old Oud Santal & Cedre Orange. 28€ each.

This isn't a soap to choose if you're in a hurry.
Newer formulas have improved; several years ago, I used some soaps to perfume my closet.
A little tip: use a dry brush, preferably badger, and work patiently in the bowl, adding very little water.
It takes time, but the result will be excellent.

Haven't thought of that. Will they work well too to perfume the bathroom ? 🤔

Taking advantage of the annual 35% discount on the entire catalog offered by the most famous Italian e-seller, I stocked up on soaps (even though I honestly didn't need them!) and picked up a razor that I consider iconic and that I just had to have:
Saponificio Bignoli - Violetta di Parma
Stirling - Vanilla Sandalwood
Wholly Kaw - Cola Bliss
Taylor of Old Bond Street - Sandalwood
Merkur 41C Razor

Some old favourites, and some others I've been chasing for some time. The Tuff aftershave is terrific, as is the Acqua Di Genova Cologne.

I already treasure the Calani Oriential Plum pucks I have in the den; delighted to add Classic Havana and Simple to the collection. Truly excellent German shaving soaps.

A few cheeky green soldiers peeking in at the back. :happy:
