Hello everyone. Well, after a couple of months under my belt, I decided to order a RazoRock GC .84 razor with the Bulldog handle. This razor is definitely more aggressive than my Merkur 34C, but I love the fact that it's so much more efficient, too. I really now only need 2 passes to get a BBS shave. I'm going to order the GC .68 plate as well as the new GC.76 plate so I have all there plates to experiment with. The RazoRock razor is WAY better built versus my 34C. I also invested in a better brush (Simpson Trafalgar T-3), and better shave cream from TOOBS. I found a really nice plastic shaving bowl on Amazon for $27cad, and it's made in the USA.

The Merkur 34 is a tried and tested razor and way back when was one of the two most-recommended razors to people starting out, the other being the EJ89. If you’ve only had the razor for two weeks and only shave every three or four days, that means that you've only got three or four shaves with it under your belt and two of those were with the Merkur blade which I would agree with you is rubbish.

I would respectfully suggest that the problem is that your technique’s not there yet and that buying a more aggressive razor is not the way to go. If you have average beard growth the Merkur will be more than up to the job. I suspect either that your lather's too thick or you’re not holding the correct angle with the razor.
