New 60mm Nikon Nikkor lens delivered

Here's my new Nikon Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 D AF lens for my D7100.
Perfect for portrait and macro work

This is my first prime lens and I'm so looking forward to trying this out.

Thanks @Gordy . The lens cap photo was hand held but I do have a tripod . I'm just waiting for the quick release plate to arrive so I can mount the camera. I also need a decent sturdy dslr table top tripod.

Prime lenses are class. You'll now have to learn how to zoom with your feet.

Lots of option when it comes to macro photography and rigging. My Joby Gorillapod sees a lot of use too, fantastic bits of kit.

Thanks for your comments guys . I wouldn't say I'm into real close up detailed macro. Besides the 60mm lens wouldn't be suitable but I do like the compromise this lens offers between macro, portrait and general photography.

They usually come with a fixed focal length and a a very small f number which allows you to take pretty sharp pictures including nicely blurred backgrounds for portraits.

Here's an example sharp facial focus background out of focus by using a small f number giving you a shallow depth of field.

Thanks @Gordy I've been looking at the Joby Gorillapod's. I have a couple of good floor tripods but want one for table top work. May I ask which version do you have? I'm liking the Joby GorillaPod SLR-Zoom Tripod for SLR Cameras with Ballhead
It appears to be strong enough to take the weight of a DSLR.
