Gents,
I felt compelled to post a review because I am absolutely blown away by my latest acquisition. The Shield SE AC style razor.
To give some context, I don't have a massive collection of high-end boutique razors, and this is actually my very first experience ever using the Artist Club blade format. I’ve always heard that AC style blades offer a completely different feel, but I wasn't sure what to expect. From the very first pass, this razor completely shattered any expectations I had.
Fit, Finish, and Feel
Right out of the box, the machining quality caught my attention. The engineering feels premium, solid, and substantial in the hand. The top cap and base plate align flawlessly with zero blade play, and putting it together is buttery smooth. The weight distribution feels completely intuitive, making it incredibly easy to find and hold the right angle.
The Shave Experience
I popped a fresh blade in, and the difference between this and a standard double-edge setup was immediate. Because the Shield clamps that long, thick AC style blade so securely, there is absolutely zero blade chatter. It mowed through multi-day growth like it wasn’t even there. What really blew me away is how it effortlessly balances efficiency with pure comfort. It has a smooth, positive blade feel that lets you know exactly what it's doing, yet it remains incredibly forgiving. I got a smooth, close finish with absolutely zero post-shave irritation, redness, or burning. It even handled the tricky areas around my jawline with ease.
Conclusion
For my first foray into the world of Artist Club style shaving, I couldn't have asked for a better introduction. The performance-to-price ratio on the Shield is fantastic, and the shave quality has honestly set a completely new benchmark for me. If you've been on the fence about trying an AC razor or want a smooth, highly efficient shaver that doesn't require a steep learning curve, I can't recommend this one enough. For the record the La faulx ++ has now been ordered. (expected delivery June 4th)
Can’t wait to compare!
